The community you’ll be caring for:

  • AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites and a catheterization lab

  • The hospital also features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop and on-site fire station

  • The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades

The role you’ll contribute:

The Courier Supervisor III provides day-to-day supervision of the AdventHealth courier logistics operations. Responsibilities include scheduling, staff training and development, coordination with third-party courier vendors, vehicle maintenance, process compliance, and ensuring all DOT regulations are met. She/he reviews and provides data regarding pallet volume, SLA metrics, and managing fleet expenses. The Supervisor plans, implements, and reviews courier/distribution routes and also schedules and performs any and all expected courier/distribution route duties as necessary. Ensures adherance of staff, as well as, personal accountability, to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, federal agencies, and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • Manage maintenance logs and schedules for fleet as assigned.

  • Maintains the department philosophy of excellent customer service and a polite attitude under all circumstances.

  • Ensures hospital vehicles are operated within the laws of the State of Florida and the policies of AdventHealth. Ensures vehicles are maintained to maximize cost effectiveness and productivity.

  • Safely arranges transportation of biological specimens, equipment, supplies, reports and similar items or related paperwork according to defined schedule and department expectations. Fills in when needed and potentially at moments notice.

  • Supervises staff to ensure SLA’s are being met and processes are being followed.

  • Implements staff training programs. Develops and oversees functionality and service associated with the electronic tracking system.

  • Provides quality indicators, as needed. Responds quickly to issues identified by clients and department managers; skillfully communicates to the appropriate administrator (s) creating an atmosphere of cooperation. Provides prompt resolution to customer- service issues within guidelines.

  • Adheres strictly to AdventHealth’s Compliance Plan and the rules and regulations of applicable regulatory authorities; protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all times.

  • Properly follows safety policies..

  • Ensures package tracking is executed accurately and successfully for all items by way of using provided device with delivery management software.

  • Opens trailer, inspects that shore bar and strap are properly installed according to established procedures, corrects if needed.

  • Safely loads and unloads the supplies onto vehicle and ensures that all supplies are delivered; picks up and delivers packages, products, and supplies; and maintains schedules. Reports any discrepancies to supervisor.

  • Maintains accurate logs when required.

  • If not already, will be certified in the use of an electric pallet jack and will log inspections daily.

  • Maintains security and proper handling of items transported. Safely transports patient care records according to departmental policy. Releases films to physicians’ offices utilizing proper sign out forms. Tracks jackets and films to other facilities.

  • Uses functions of computer system, bar code readers/devices, fax machine, copier, and scanner.

  • Stay up to date on computer eLearning

  • Safely transports Pharmacy preparations, biological specimens, medical supplies and related paperwork, according to defined schedule or urgent request and department expectations. Maintain communication as required and safe driving practices. Participates in and has knowledge of the requirements for transporting of the Pharmacy preparations. At all times maintain the integrity of the items being transported and all external factors (as specified) that effect the safe transport of the Pharmacy preparations.

  • Adheres strictly to AdventHealth’s Compliance Plan and the rules and regulations of applicable regulatory authorities; always protects confidentiality of patient information and results.

  • Appropriately uses PPE, and follows safety policies, including handwashing. Understands and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan. Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous materials from the point of generation to a designated delivery area. Employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous materials) and refresher training to include proper handling pharmacy preparation. All transportation vehicles must have available a chemical spill kit.

  • Meets with leadership as scheduled. Notifies Manager of any traffic tickets or accidents immediately.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department.


The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work well as part of a team and to supervise staff.

  • Ability to maintain schedule under time constraints.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple courier routes.

  • Good oral and written communication skills including relationship building and customer service skills.

  • Reading skills in English, text and numbers, with ability to comprehend, measure, reason, match and problem solve.

  • Ability to use computer-related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices.

  • Good/mature judgment, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving techniques to optimize and improve department productivity, cost containment, and staff management options.

  • Ability to handle confidential information within AdventHealth guidelines and applicable regulations.

  • Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and the ability to work with people of various backgrounds.

  • Self-starter that can budget his/her time and activities as needed to accomplish the task at hand.

  • Experience driving semi-trailers - 53ft & 48 ft Dry Van.

  • Ability to identify, sort items and organize the cargo to deliver it to the right place at the right time.

  • Ability to read and speak English.

  • Ability to be courteous, follow a schedule and instructions.

  • Ability to use scanning device to help log and track all deliveries.

  • Ability to use good judgment in all emergencies.

  • Ability to drive all vehicles from sedan to semi-tractor trailer


  • Knowledge of DOT regulations

  • Knowledge of Orlando and surrounding areas


  • 1 year experience driving a semi-tractor trailer

  • Two years of courier/logistics department or other related experience

  • Class A DOT license


  • High school graduate or equivalent


  • Valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class “A” and driving record in accordance with AdventHealth policy.

  • Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate


  • Pallet Jack Certification

  • Forklift Certification
