The role you’ll contribute:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for hospital-based patient nursing services, pharmacy services, employee health services, surgical services, outpatient clinic services, and inservice education services. As a member of the AdventHealth Durand management team, reporting to the Administrator, the D.O.N. is mutually responsible for the provision of high quality and cost effective patient care with other management in fulfilling AdventHealth mission and values. The D.O.N. is accountable for the clinical practice of nursing, nursing roles and responsibilities, development and education of nursing staff, patient safety, infection control, and coordination of all policies, procedures, and protocols. The D.O.N. coordinates activities, which aid in compliance with standards set forth by state, OSHA, and other federal and governmental regulatory agencies.

A. Job Specific

Job may be modified temporarily, but not permanently.

  1. Develops and annually revises strategies for patient care services and provides input into other organizational strategies based upon situational analysis. Assures these strategies are consistent with the mission and values of AdventHealth.

  2. Designs, develops, implements, and continually evaluates work processes and quality related outcomes to meet the needs and expectations of patients/residents, providers, visitors, and community. Identifies specific outcomes important to clinical quality and excellent service, assures continuous quality improvement processes are operational and nursing culture is consistent with organizational mission and values.

  3. Selects, orients, develops, and evaluates those reporting directly to the position. Assures that staff are highly qualified, are evaluated in a timely and meaningful manner, and identifies and pursues development plans in line with organizational needs. Assures that human resource practices and plans in nursing are consistent with overall human resource strategies and goals.

  4. Is accountable for establishing productive working relationships with the medical staff and support departments.

  5. Develops, monitors and evaluates resources to be allocated (facilities, staff, supplies, capital equipment) for the care functions to be effective in the delivery of patient care. Assures these resources support and enhance the attainment of organizational strategies.

  6. Actively participates in the committees for Quality Assessment and Improvement for Acute Care and Swing Bed Patients, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Forms, and Safety.

  7. Actively initiates/participates/leads Performance Improvement processes.

  8. Occasionally staffs nursing units to maintain skills, assess performance, and relieve shortages.

  9. Maintains competency in at least one department service area.

  10. Develops, implements, and evaluates Nursing and AdventHealth Durand’s policies, practices, systems, and structures to assure they support and enhance the mission, values and strategies of AHS.

  11. Creates, reviews and revises on an ongoing basis with nursing staff and the medical staff standards of care, standards of practice and protocols to keep consistent with current professional practices. Disseminates such information.

  12. Promotes and educates managers in the production of meaningful meeting minutes that are informative and inclusive of the discussion, evaluation, and actions of that committee/group.

  13. Works with other registered nurses and other staff in evaluating current nursing practices and patient care delivery models to improve the quality and efficiency of nursing care.

  14. Along with other nursing staff, participates in developing and implementing mechanisms for collaboration between nursing staff members, physicians and other associate providers.

  15. Works with other nursing staff to develop, implement and evaluate programs to promote the recruitment, retention, development; and continuing education of nursing staff members.

  16. Along with Human Resources in the ongoing review and revision of job descriptions, performance evaluations and orientation/competency skills lists. Creates same as new positions occur within the division.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED

· 5+ years of demonstrated leadership and management skills as an R.N. with increasing levels of responsibilities and a proven record of achieving results.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 2, 3 or 4-year R.N. program..

· Registered in Wisconsin – License as a Registered Nurse

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

· Wisconsin Registered Nurse License

· BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association

· ACLS within one year of employment
