Work Hours/Shift:   Full Time Days. 3/12 hour shifts 6:45am-7:15pm, variable days

Qualifications
Job Summary:

The Advanced/Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of an assigned group of patients. Ability to accept lead responsibility in the absence of a Lead Therapist / Supervisor, as directed. Specific age groups are identified in the principal duties and job responsibilities section. Adheres to AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

What You Will Need:
 
  • Associate’s degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program, OR
  • If hired prior to November 20, 2015, must be a graduate of a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary program
  • Current Valid State of Florida license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • For Cost Center 7630, 7637, 0520, 5040, 4270, 1792, and 9390: Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Critical thinking and patient assessment skills, with the ability to evaluate and modify plan of care
  • Ability to use applicable infection control standards
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the patient care record Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and use of computer applications
  • Airway management skills, including maintenance of a patient airway and care of artificial airways
  • Ability to provide optimal respiratory support including: administration of oxygen, inhaled medications, lung expansion, and bronchial hygiene
  • Ability to appropriately operate and manage non-invasive and invasive modes of mechanical ventilation
  • Ability to perform Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) puncture and analysis and hemodynamic monitoring
  • For adult care at appropriate campuses, ventilator patient transportation knowledge
  • Knowledge and skill to care for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient in a healthcare delivery system
 
 
 
You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Must satisfactorily complete an orientation, airway management certification, critical care and advanced critical care-training program, a proficiency exam, and be proficient at all applicable procedures defined below.

  • Practices standard precautions and enforces safety regulations according to hospital policies on a continual basis. Documents and charges for procedures accurately and completely to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital.

  • Responds to Code Blue emergencies immediately providing CPR according to the American Heart Association guidelines. Performs airway maintenance including: proper use of manual resuscitators, suctioning, extubation, assists with bronchoscopy, assists with tracheostomy tube insertion, performs trach tube change, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, LMA insertion, endotracheal intubation, and procedural respiratory support.

  • Properly utilizes patient assessment skills, prescriber care plans, chart review, and conferring with multidisciplinary team to determine efficacy of therapy in a cost and time efficient manner making appropriate recommendations and changes per prescriber care plan. Performs respiratory therapies and oxygen delivery therapies and makes recommendations to the most efficient delivery method per prescriber care plan.

  • Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors mechanical ventilators to include conventional and advanced modes of ventilation per policy and procedure. Reviews chest radiology reports as necessary and per policy and procedure. Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors heliox and nitric oxide.

  • Properly performs hemodynamic procedures to include: arterial cannulation, assembly, calibration; assisting with pulmonary artery catheter insertion, calibration; performs cardiac output and hemodynamic / cardiopulmonary profiles.

  • Proactively initiates process improvement ideas. Assists with clinical instruction and precepting, and serves as a resource person to lower level therapists. Supports hospital and department mission, goals, and department metrics.  Performs other duties as requested by department leadership.

  • Obtains, performs, and reports findings of blood gas and co-oximetry analysis. Performs quality control as needed. Setup and perform oximetry, apnea, TC and ETCO2 monitoring as ordered by physician.

  • May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of AdventHealth Orlando non-waived Point of Care training.

    Campus / Unit-Specific Duties:

    Applicable Campuses:  May perform duties of transport therapist (upon completion of training and maintenance of competency). Performs a-line maintenance, assists with CVP catheter insertion, calibration, and maintenance. Standby for bronchoscopy procedure. May be required to perform pulmonary function screen testing. Monitors intra-aortic balloon pumps. Performs nitric oxide delivery.

 
  • Altamonte and Winter Park: Performs, documents, and transmits quality 12-lead EKGs after hours as ordered by physician

  • Altamonte, Celebration, and Winter Park: Performs effectively in the Labor and Delivery work area (as applicable).

  • Children’s Hospital, Altamonte, Celebration, and Winter Park Neonatal Therapist: Delivers neonatal resuscitation and assists with APGAR scoring at delivery per NRP guidelines, Maintains proper equipment in labor / delivery / perinatal areas.

  • Independent Emergency Department Practice: Performs 12-lead electrocardiogram; venipuncture & intravenous cannulation; continuous monitor set-up and operation (as applicable).
