You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Available and provides back-up/on-call ministry multi-facility coverage “as needed” (day, nights, weekends, holidays) as scheduled by the Senior/Lead Chaplain of Pastoral Care.
  • Provides ministry to patients, families and staff.
  • Respond to referrals from physician and nurses and to requests for spiritual care from patients and family members.
  • Respond to pages by phone within 5 minutes and present in the visit within 20 – 30 minutes.
  • Assesses spiritual needs of patients and provides appropriate interventions with consideration to growth development needs and age group.
  • Participates in patient-care rounds, huddles and discharge planning process.
  • Educate the hospital staff on the role and function of the hospital chaplains and volunteers.
  • May develop a pastoral care plan for patients by identifying objectives, interventions and desired outcomes.
  • Communicates appropriate information to the interdisciplinary team through appropriate charting on the Spiritual Clinical Consult Form in the medical record.
  • Exhibits knowledge of the levels of growth, development, and skills for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Assesses spiritual needs of patients and provides appropriate interventions with consideration to growth development needs and age group
  • Follows all of the organization’s policies and guidelines

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Personal commitment to God
  • Personal integrity, emotional stability, sound physical health, and an ability to work under stress. 
  • Ability to effectively relate and consistently provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds. 
  • Ability to earn respect of nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


Level 1    PRN Chaplain: (shift pay)

  1. Master of Divinity/Theology/Religion or equivalent (7 or more active years in a leadership role within the place of worship and must be endorsed by denomination’s local body).
  2. Two (2) or more ACPE Certified Units of Clinical Pastoral Education having completed with a positive final evaluation

Level 2    PRN Chaplains: (shift pay)

  1. BA in Theology/Religion or equivalent (5 or more active years in a leadership role within the place of worship and must be endorsed by denomination’s local body).
  2. One (1) Unit (two preferred and encouraged) ACPE Certified Units of Clinical Pastoral Education having completed with a positive final evaluation.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Must be active and endorsed by a local congregation/ordained/ministerial license/commissioned under the authority of a church.
