You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Demonstrate ability to promote customer satisfaction.  Utilize the L.A.S.T. (Listen, Apologize, Solve, and Thank) model to address customer concerns.
  • Maintain and promote complete confidentiality, privacy and dignity of customers as identified in the booklet “Expectations for Customer Service Excellence.”

  • Assess the educational needs of staff integrating evidence-based best nursing practice, changing trends and technologies, accreditation agency standards, and organizational goals.
  • Plan, participate, facilitate and evaluate the delivery of educational programs.
  • Participates on Professional Practice Model Councils.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for staff members, physicians, and other health care providers.
  • Support and serve as a resource for house-wide educational endeavors. 
  • Select, train, evaluate and collaborate with preceptors.
  • Monitor mandatory education and unit specific educational requirements.
  • Facilitate new employee orientation and development.
  • Serve as liaison and resource for students and instructors.
  • Participate in and complete projects for assigned committees.
  • Develop or assist in the development of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines related to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Supports and facilitates change/change process.
  • Utilize research results, benchmarking and other scientific sources in the development of evidence-based best nursing practice.
  • Utilize performance improvement processes/tools  to evaluate educational programs.
  • Promote lifelong learning (personal, as well as the learning of others) as an essential and integral component of professional practice.
  • Integrate strategic plan, quality scorecards and patient outcomes to validate the goals of educational programs
  • Collaborate with administration, unit managers, clinical nurse specialists and staff to maximize cost effective educational programming.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association

Job Summary:

The Educator fosters the integration of the organization’s vision and values and accomplishes the mission and strategic plan through an accountable work team.  As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Educator collaborates with patients/customers, families, physicians, administration, and associates to meet customer needs and expectations in a patient focused and healing environment. 

The Educator uses critical thinking and demonstrates leadership skills in assuring that appropriate care is carried out for specific patient population(s).  The Educator is responsible for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel and all members of the health care team.  The Educator is responsible for establishing the tone of the work environment and ensuring that all personnel are competent, adhere to all policies of the department and organization and adhere to all behavior standards of Shawnee Mission Health. 

The Nursing Development Educator is accountable for developing, growing, and maintaining a ANCC accredited program/model defining competency assessment, monitoring and measurement for nursing professionals meeting regulatory requirements, outcome goals and professional growth and development needs.

The Educator would also be our patient experience coordinator.  Pulling and presenting data monthly and helping to work with teams on improving our patient experience scores. 

The Educator would sit on the mid America regional policy committee and ensure our clinical policies at South Overland Park remained current with evidence-based practices within the region.
