You Will Be Responsible For:

•         Clinical Nutrition Operations:

o   Directs the provision of medical nutrition therapy by participating in and by supervising the activities of clinical dietitians, including nutrition screening, assessment, monitoring, and education according to established department policies.

o   Schedules clinical nutrition staff according to department needs and budgeted hours.

o   Implements and maintains cost control procedures, adhering to budget constraints while guaranteeing quality service.

o   Addresses questions and concerns of patients and families, community members, and health professionals using nutrition knowledge and problem solving skills.

o   Develops or obtains organizationally approved diet manual, nutrition practice guidelines, and current reference and education materials, and monitors and implements new developments as appropriate.

•         Human Resource Management:

o   Develops job descriptions and determines levels of competency necessary to meet mandatory job requirements.

o   Recruits, interviews, hires, and facilitates training of new employees to meet department staffing needs.

o   Manages, disciplines, and evaluates the performance of assigned departmental personnel based on job requirements and core competencies assigned to the job.

o   Provides or facilitates in-services and training opportunities for clinical nutrition staff.

o   Resolves conflicts using constructive coaching techniques while providing employees with feedback that is timely, clear, and appropriate.

o   Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings.

•         Business and Quality Integration:

o   Assists in budget planning, projects revenue and productivity, and establishes financial objectives.

o   Assesses, designs, implements, and evaluates nutrition care policies and procedures to achieve cost containment and improved patient outcomes.  Reviews and revises policies and procedures as needed.

o   Monitors department outcomes and adjusts processes to ensure evidence based practices and improve employee and patient satisfaction.

o   Develops, initiates, and monitors a performance improvement program in accordance with Joint Commission on the Accreditation of healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requirements.

o   Assists in achieving compliance with regulatory agency standards, including state, federal, and JCAHO standards.

o   Creates and implements a strategic plan that positions clinical dietitians into key roles, high values, and cost effective patient care.

o   Establishes and integrates department goals with hospital-wide annual goals and visions to provide optimal nutrition care.

o   Monitors and integrates technological advances that enhance efficiency as appropriate.

•         Professional Interface:

o   Interacts with hospital management, professional staff, and foodservice staff to promote interdepartmental communication and cooperation and to ensure patients’ nutritional needs are met.

o   Attends and participates in interdisciplinary teams and committees.

o   Coordinates staff resources to provide community events and nutrition programs.

o   Collaborates with corporate teams, state and national health care professionals, and professional organizations via information exchange, benchmarking tools, and attendance at national conferences.

•         Research:

o   Evaluates nutrition care protocols using principles of evidence-based practice to establish and/or improve nutrition practice guidelines.

o   Review current literature regularly to ensure that the most recent advancements in nutrition care are incorporated into nutrition practices and protocols.

•         Professional Development:

o   Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.

o   Develops and maintains and individualized plan for professional growth and development including participation in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, and staff development programs.

o   Performs other related duties as assigned.    


What You Will Need:

•         Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition or related area, such as business administration, health services administration, or public health, granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. 

•         Minimum of three years’ experience as a clinical dietitian.

•         Completion of an academic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).

•         Must have an active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND) 

•         Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

•         Florida Department of Health dietitian/nutritionist license

•         Preferred licensure or registration:

Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, Certified Diabetes Educator, Renal Certification, Pediatric Certification 

Job Summary:

The Clinical Nutrition Manager plans, schedules, coordinates, and supervises the work operations of the clinical nutrition staff.  Primary responsibilities include assigning work to and supervising clinical dietitians; developing standards and monitoring of clinical dietetic performance; reviewing and updating policies and procedures; implementing and maintaining cost control procedures; recruiting, hiring, and orienting staff; interacting with hospital management and professional staff; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.  The CNM also works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives.
