Work Hours/Shift:

You Will Be Responsible For:   

  • Participates in both formal and informal education sessions with CDI, HIM and other clinical staff as needed.  Educates on the importance of documentation, necessary verbiage and to provide a better understanding of coding, ensuring optimal reimbursement, adherence to coding guidelines and complete documentation. 
  • Serves as training liaison and educational resource for CDI.  Interviews and recommends new hires, trains new and/or established CDI team members as necessary and evaluates performance for potential coaching and learning opportunities. 
  • Concurrent and retrospective evaluation of Coding/CDI discrepancies and communicates to the coding/CDI staff in a collaborative manner for resolution, ensuring compliant, accurate and optimal reimbursement. 
  • Assists in the identification of indicators for performance and development of monitoring strategies, data collection and reporting methodologies.  Utilizes process improvement skills.  
  • Consults with Coding and CDI Directors and department quality staff as needed to optimize the process related to specific high-volume high-risk diagnoses. 
  • Follows industry coding and documentation guidelines to maintain system-wide coding consistency and to remain in compliance with all government and regulatory agencies. 
  • Works with other departments as requested to address coding needs, claim issues, coding errors and/or questions. 
  • Performs special projects and/or other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications
What Will You Need:        

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related health care field
  • Minimum five years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • 3-5 years of adult acute care nursing experience
•     Previous CDI experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

LICENSURE OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Registration with AHIMA as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Job Summary:

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.  The Coding/Clinical Integration Coordinator reports to the System HIM Director to assist in keeping the multifunctional day-to-day Revenue Cycle operations on track.  The purpose of this position is to ensure the integrity and quality of the data reported is supported by provider clinical documentation to accurately reflect reimbursement and quality reporting.  Maintains knowledge of and keeps up with educational material/healthcare changes on Medicare/Medicaid, ICD-10 and CPT coding and documentation guidelines.  Works closely with CDI specialists, providing coding conventions and guidelines when clinical and coding assumption is in conflict.
