Director Sponsored Programs – Research Administration – AdventHealth Maitland

You Will Be Responsible For:  
  • Oversees the  Office of Sponsored Programs  (OSP)  and leads teams with  accountability for federal, state and industry grants and contracts  with accountability for the timely execution and study clearance of clinical trial agreements and budgets. 

  • Serves as the Hospital’s authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) and Signing Official (SO), as designated by the Research Executive Leadership, who has institutional authority to legally bind AdventHealth in grants administration matters.

  • Responsible for  day-to-day operational matters of OSP relative to research infrastructure and services.

  • Provides a full range of administrative support to AdventHealth’s Research Enterprise, with primary emphasis in developing and processing grant applications to federal, state and private funding sources; negotiating and executing clinical trial agreements and budgets;  implementing requirements established by AdventHealth, Funder, and Sponsors; and assisting in the administration of related databases and the acquisition of data required for financial and research compliance, enrollment, annual and ad hoc reports, grant monitoring, and other related records.


What You Will Need:
  • Master’s in healthcare, business, finance, legal, accounting, research or administration related discipline
  • Minimum of 10 to 12 years of experience in the following areas:
  • Experience Administration of research, clinical trial agreements, grants, and other sponsored programs in a hospital or academic setting
  • Interpretation and application of federal regulations, guidance documents, policies and procedures
  • Experience working with budgets, including developing reports and presentation of financial information

    Contract matters experience

    Spreadsheets, databases, web-based database applications for research and grants related management

    Leadership and management experience

    Developing educational presentations and public speaking

    Writing policies, procedures, guidance documents and/or standard operating procedures

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of research related clinical trial and contract terms (e.g. human subjects, animal, biohazard, export control, intellectual property, etc.)

  • Knowledge of grants and contracts, policies and procedures, including preparation of protocol budgets and budget tracking

    Familiarity with federal and state laws regulating contracts and sponsored research

  • In-depth knowledge of the needs and application of databases and related tools to contract, grant and project management
  • Knowledge of the research regulatory environment as they affect and intersect with the activities of the Sponsored Program’s Office including the Office of Research Integrity

    Ability to select and monitor financial performance, manage technical services and to evaluate portfolio growth

    Effective English oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in understandable terms to all levels of staff, administrators, leadership, and physicians, including strong writing skills, public speaking and teaching skills.

    Effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.) and other research tools such as SPSS, etc.

    Supervise the Office of Sponsored Programs.

  • Research certification through SOCRA, SRA, etc.
  • Current Certified Research Administrator (CRA) designation
  • Established competency in the contracts and grants mechanisms related to biomedical research and the regulatory environment

  • Experience in federal grant or contract review and preparation

  • Experience with financial audits

  • Demonstrated ability to implement new and complex initiatives in a complex matrix environment

Job Summary:

The Director of Sponsored Programs is responsible for providing direction and oversight of teams with the accountability for aspects of compliance with state, federal and industry grants and contracts; research and related data compliance for the AdventHealth Research Institute (AHRI). The Director serves as the Hospital’s authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) and Signing Official (SO), as designated by the Research Executive Leadership, who has institutional authority to legally bind AdventHealth in grants administration matters.  The Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Sponsored Programs team including the Clinical Trials Business Office and the Research Enterprise at AdventHealth. This involves the development and implementation of many policies and procedures as they relate to Sponsored Programs Administration. In addition, technical and administrative responsibilities are required of the Director in the areas of systems development, policy development, financial oversight of sponsored programs (Grants and Contracts), training, implementation of system-wide technology platforms and business relationships required to support research collaborations. Oversees the development and maintenance of the infrastructure needed to maintain a grants and contracts program that is compliant with federal regulations and advances the strategic interests of the AdventHealth Research Enterprise. Works with other grant and contract personnel within AdventHealth to facilitate communication and ensure research support and oversight coverage for all investigators. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
