You Will Be Responsible For:

Scope of Responsibility:

•         Provide leadership and direction for system, departments, services, clinical programs and support areas involved in the provision of orthopedic-related care and services. 

•         Responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously evaluating programs and services to meet volume, profitability, quality and service standards. 

•         Lead the transformation of the current ambulatory care of CFD into the new organizational structure within the IHS division of CFD.

•         Establish a model of care within these ambulatory services as part of an integrated delivery system that creates high value care, improves the health status of the population, contains cost, improves access and provides an enhanced patient experience.

  • Utilize financial data to diagnose business strengths and weaknesses and identify the implications for potential strategies.

•         Responsible for collaborating with clinical research division that meets scientific community standards for clinical and translational research and generates peer-reviewed publication; responsible for ensuring safe, ethical, and cost-effective management of clinical research.

•         Communicate and collaborate closely with other components of AH and CFD for transitions of care and other departments and programs within AH and CFD (Population Health, Finance, IT)






Compliance/Regulatory Responsibility:

•         Responsible for maintaining accreditations and certification and/or Center of Excellence designations where applicable – particularly in total joint and upper extremity programs

•         Responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance in outpatient care settings


Operating & Capital Budget/Financial Responsibility:

•         Plan, manage and control the budget for ambulatory care services, resources and facilities.

•         Current inpatient Institute Operational and financial responsibility is more than 6,000 inpatient surgical cases/year and system EDBIT responsibility of $35,000,000 – responsible for balance of growth of this inpatient program with growing an outpatient network.

•         Responsible for capital and non-capital technology plans and negotiation on an annual basis as well as planning for next generation technology.

•         Capital budget responsibility in 2019 and 2020 will exceed $20 million with partnerships and JV models with private physician groups and ambulatory assets such as buildout of surgery centers

Strategic Planning Responsibility:

  • Understand and manage alternative payment models, including bundled payment programs, and lead programmatic performance

•         Direct responsibility for ensuring positive physician relations (and satisfaction) through collaboration and communication on strategic, operational and other issues and working with them to resolve areas of conflict or difficulty in hospital practice.

•         Responsible for physician needs planning, development and recruitment for orthopedic specialties and subspecialties. 

•         Extend the ambulatory care model across network development efforts, including future care delivery sites such as Health Parks and Surgery Centers

•         Responsible for diversifying revenue sources through philanthropy, grants, and business ventures so as not to be 100% reliant on clinical operations and oversight of the management and compliance associated with grant-funded programs, services, etc.

Performance Improvement Responsibility:

•         Responsible for partnership with Institute and Program Medical Directors, creating contractual arrangements, setting and monitoring annual accountabilities.

•         Ensure adequate information technology and data to operate a highly functioning ambulatory care system.

•         Lead network, interdepartmental, campus and system initiatives to achieve improvements in clinical care processes and patient services and volume and financial performance.

Community Relations Responsibility:

  • Keep the Seventh-day Adventist faith-based values of Christian service and the AdventHealth mission of “Extending the healing ministry of Christ” as a priority of decision making and action.
  • Ensure that the customer perspective is a driving force behind business decisions and activities; crafting and implementing service practices that meet customers’ and own organization’s needs.
  • Support, promote and participate in community service activities.

Staffing/Labor/Supervisory Responsibility:

•         Oversee and monitor the change management process of transformation within Ambulatory Care to achieve: Collaboration of multiple practices into a unified team with a common vision and goals, Integration of Physicians and Advanced care providers into an efficient care delivery system model, Appropriate use of specialty services within the model, including coordination between primary care and subspecialty consultants.

•         Establish a leadership team within the Orthopedic Acute & Ambulatory Care, supervising these leaders, and providing them guidance and professional development.

•         Establish, implement and manage staffing of the Orthopedic Acute & Ambulatory Care that is appropriate to meet the model of care, and is consistently applied across the continuum.

•         Responsible for Institute FTEs including care coordinators, registry and research coordinators and post-acute navigators.

•         Responsible for hiring and retaining qualified Institute personnel through effective job design, recruitment, retention, development, and performance management programs and processes; assists orthopedic-related department leadership in same capacity for key positions

What You Will Need:

•         Bachelor's degree, particularly in a healthcare business or clinical science

•         Minimum of six years of diverse experience in the musculoskeletal arena, or other relative service line, with a minimum of three years of experience in program development.

•         Minimum of four years in progressively responsible administrative work or directorship of multiple departments in a hospital or hospital system.

•         Extensive experience working closely with physicians and proven ability to gain trust and credibility

•         Extensive experience facilitating and managing challenging situations, including conflict resolution and demonstration of outstanding interpersonal skills

•         Experience in facilitating high-level multidisciplinary group decisions

Job Summary:

The Executive Director of Orthopedic Institute Operations provides direct oversight for all the Orthopedic specialty care areas within the Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Institute across the Central Florida Division, including at least 15 hospitals. The Executive Director reports to the Vice President of the Orthopedic/MSK Institute. The Executive Director engages and collaborates with leaders across the division, and as appropriate, with the corporate office, on elevating quality and services for orthopedic care. The Executive Director works in a matrix organization but serves as the System leader for the Orthopedic ambulatory care services - ensuring each site provides the same quality of care.

The Executive Director is responsible for planning and implementing with Integrated Health Services (IHS) the Ambulatory product model for care sites both virtual and physical; leading outpatient care delivery site development and connectivity (such as rehab, clinics, surgery centers, etc.); and overseeing the reorganization and operations of all ambulatory services.  Provides the vision and executive leadership to meet the goals and objectives of the CFD mission and strategic plan.
