Work Hours/Shift:

  • Full Time, Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm


You Will Be Responsible For:   

  • Creates and maintains positive working relationships with targeted audiences, including but not limited to, donor families, hospital professionals, volunteers, and community partners
  • Coordinate's aftercare program for all OurLegacy donor families through a series of time-sensitive, measurable communications and activities. This includes timely development and distribution of donation follow-up materials and the review/distribution of written communications between donor families and transplant recipients within the time frame designated in the Family Services policy. Provides monthly activity reports regarding follow-up communication to the Manager of Public Relations.
  • Coordinates a minimum of two activities/events annually for donor families, giving them an opportunity to honor their loved ones.
  • Maintains a current library of grief literature and the appropriate contact information for referrals pertaining to community social service organizations.
  • Conducts in-services to community partners when assigned to increase education on organ and tissue donation and donor designation
  • Recruits' community partners and participates in community outreach events, as necessary
  • Identifies a minimum of three feature or donation-related stories to increase education on donation and donor designation within a 12-month period


  • Bachelor's Degree in Communication sor education -related field or social work


  • Master's degree in communications-related field (public relations, marketing, journalism, etc.)
  • Experience in health communication
  • Grief support experience
  • Social work experience

GENERAL SUMMARY: OurLegacy is designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as the only organ procurement organization (OPO) in east central Florida and is accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) as a tissue recovery agency. OurLegacy's scope of operations extends to each of the following hospitals within the AdventHealth's Hospital system: Altamonte, Apopka, Celebration, Daytona Beach, Deland, East Orlando, Fish Memorial, Kissimmee, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Palm Coast, Waterman and Winter Park. Additionally, CMS has designated OurLegacy to provide organ and tissue donation services to all non[1]AdventHealth acute care and critical access hospitals and free-standing emergency rooms in the following counties: Brevard, Flagler, Indian River, Lake, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia. The Family Care Specialist collaborates with donor families and community partners to help maximize education and outreach. Under supervision, the community and family relations specialist develop, implements, and evaluates OurLegacy's aftercare program, providing services to all OurLegacy donor families post-donation. This includes, but is not limited to, timely follow-up with families after donation has occurred, facilitating communication between donor families and recipients, and coordinating special events honoring donors and donor families. The specialist also collaborates with community partners to promote donation education and increase actionable donor designations within Central Florida's communities. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
