Description
The Database Coordinator for Surgical Services integrates nursing science, computer science and information science to identify, acquire, preserve, manage, retrieve, aggregate, analyze and transmit data, information and knowledge making it meaningful and useful to clinical practice, administration, education, research, and the expansion of nursing and other clinical knowledge. This includes the evaluation of applications, tools, processes, and structures which assist clinicians with the management of data in taking care of patients or in supporting the clinical practice for Surgical Services. The Database Coordinator works collaboratively with users of clinical information systems from Surgical Services, with various departments in the Information Systems division as necessary, and in problem-solving issues related to clinical information systems for Surgical Services. To facilitate, coordinate, and support nursing computerized documentation within Surgical Services, Endoscopy, PAT, PACU and Central Sterile. This Database Coordinator also helps coordinate aspects of planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, maintenance and evaluation of existing or new functionality related to clinical information systems for Surgical Services. This person acts as a liaison between clinicians, IS technicians and analysts, and system vendors to develop and implement information systems that support clinical practice for the Surgical Division. The individual will also support other roles as needed to promote a smooth functioning Surgical Services Department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintains policies and procedures related to clinical information systems for Surgical Services.  
• Assists with charge issues related to supply pick list charges.
• Reviews all custom programming and enhancement requests that are submitted by the clinical departments of Surgical Services for appropriateness and completeness to determine appropriate action.  
• Assists in OR Chart Audit during any down time in Data Base responsibilities.  
• Coordinates with the clinical departments and the facility IS staff to assure that a consistent approach is followed throughout the planning and implementation of new equipment and applications for Surgical Services.
• Collaborates with practitioners, administrators, educators, researchers and vendors to promote the transformation of data into information needed to provide quality patient care for Surgical Services.
• Coordinates pre and post-implementation evaluation of process, systems and device strategies as well as examine existing processes and develop fresh solutions to improve efficiency for Surgical Services.
• Serves as a resource person and role model to aid in the learning process in clinical information systems for Surgical Services.  
• Develops reports within Surgical Services that support process improvement, budgetary tracking, procedural recommendations and other aspects that assist with the smooth, safe running of the department.
• Maintains a working knowledge and understanding of surgery scheduling in order to be familiar with the caseload, provides coverage as needed by being able to function independently.
• Participates in meetings and training sessions which are offered by health information systems vendors for clinical equipment and applications as appropriate for Surgical Services.
• Oversees development and implementation of education programs for clinical information Systems related to Surgical Services in conjunction with AHS-IS and education. 
• Participates in planning, design, testing and implementation of clinical information systems throughout Surgical Services.  
• Participates in meetings and training sessions which are offered by health information systems vendors for clinical equipment and applications as appropriate for Surgical Services.
• Assist’s with Director/Manager with duties such as, but not limited too; Power points, data interpretation, etc.
• Assist’s Director/Manager with CPA and Blinky Lights in the daily management of billing and charting reconciliation
• Maintain tracking board 
• Daily monitoring of chage viewer with appropriate changes.
• Attend Surginet Council metings and update staff on changes
• Complete and maintain daily, monthly, yearly dashboard stats.
• Coordinate activation and de-activation of stock numbers.
• Creation and maintenance of Preference cards: Pick lists, comments, and segments.
• Monitor and correct anesthesia discrepancy audit.
• Supply management in hospital data base.
• Work with leadership to manage block booking
• Order office supplies for unit.
• Maintain monthly logs including implants, tissue, procedures, etc.
• Provide invoice coding in PeopleSoft
• Provide Surginet Documentation Orientation for new RN’s, staff.
• Update supply descriptions with corporate
• Other duties as laid out by the Director of Surgical Services

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
• 3-5 years’ experience with information systems or related role and in an acute care hospital setting.  
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
• BSN or 10+ years in Surgical Services setting preferred
• Hospital management experience preferred
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
• Current Florida RN License upon hire
