Job Description

The RN will provide quality nursing care to patients in various units assuming only those duties and responsibilities within RN scope of practice and for which the RN has acquired and maintained necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to competently insert, manage and remove a PICC, midline or other vascular devices in accordance with accepted professional standards as ordered by the Physician or other clinical team members when appropriate. Performs regular inspections of the catheter line itself, both visually and through imaging and may identify and treat any complications, such as blood clots or line blockages, that may cause serious side effects for the patient. Works under the general guidance of the Nursing Care policies and procedures of Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. Accreditation normally requires demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of imaging and radiological feedback to ensure the catheter line does minimal tissue damage. Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of PICC line techniques and has completed the required competency and proctored cases per PICC line policy.
The Vascular Access RN will also be responsible for the following:
- Discuss with patients the risks and purpose of line placement
- Perform IV insertions including PIV and midline IVs and maintain catheters
- Insert peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), evaluate placement, and monitor vascular access device (VAD) sites on a daily basis
- Educate nursing staff on line maintenance protocol 

At least 3 years of recent clinical experience in acute care nursing department
1 year minimum of PICC Line Nursing 
R.N. graduate of a School of Nursing
BSN preferred
Previous experience preferred as a staff nurse in acute care clinical setting
Able to work under stressful conditions.  Good oral and written communication skills
Must be able to communicate to patients, hospital staff and visitors in a concerned and caring way, demonstrating the Standards of Excellence
Able to maintain confidentiality of information. Willingness to accept responsibility
Ability to direct ancillary staff and organize work assignments
