What You Will Need:

  • Associate degree
  • Histotechnologist Certification

Job Summary:

Assists the pathologist in the daily operations of the Anatomic Pathology laboratory. Performs all basic histology functions in the preparation of tissue samples for examination including but not limited to embedding, cutting, staining and frozen sections. Participates in quality control, quality assurance and training new staff.


You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Receives and accessions tissue samples into the lab computer system checking for accuracy of paperwork.
  • Processes and prepares samples for testing for send-outs as well as in-house testing.
  • Prepares appropriate cassettes, processes, embeds and cuts tissues appropriately preparing slides.
  • Performs routine H & E Stains on slides and special stains as ordered by pathologist.
  • Files and maintains Histology and Cytology Block and slides.
  • Utilizes the lab computer system to accession and bill all section specimens.
  • Responsible for all tissue disposal and waste disposal records according to regulatory agencies.
  • Assists at patient bedside for Fine Needle Aspirations in CAT Scan and Ultrasound departments.
  • Prepares and processes cytology specimens for staining and examination by pathologist.
  • Operates, maintains and trouble shoots instrumentation for safe routine operations.
  • Orders and maintains sufficient inventory of supplies in the section.
  • Assists in orienting and training new staff.
