You Will Be Responsible For:

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Represents to the Department Chair, regarding faculty and student needs, budget, program evaluation, space and equipment needs
  • Identifies appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences
  • Designs, coordinates, and implements program curriculum
  • Collaborates with departmental faculty for course development and oversight
  • Leads the institutional effectiveness process in their area of responsibility by implementing, monitoring, documenting, and completing all required assessment activities in a timely manner
  • Develops, designs, and delivers instruction in designated courses.  Participates in student advising and mentorship
  • Actively engages in the institution’s committees as assigned by the President
  • Engages in the academic roles of teaching, service, scholarship, and research
  • Oversight of maintenance of accreditation for all Occupational Therapy Graduate Programs
  • Assumes other duties as assigned

Compliance/Regulatory Responsibility:

  • Under the supervision of the Department Chair, development of a curriculum in harmony with the institution, community, and professional accreditation agencies
  • Participate in institutional effectiveness activities including collection and analysis of annual program outcome data
  • Develops, reviews, and updates program policies and procedures
  • Documents and maintains current student clinical, scholarly projects and/or didactic experiences
  • Responsible for NAACLS program requirements for accreditation

Operating & Capital Budget/Financial Responsibility:

  • Preparation of and administration of program budgeting in collaboration with the VP of Finance and under the supervision of the Department Chair
  • Assists in securing internal and/or external sources of funding for the department and/or students

Strategic Planning Responsibility:

  • Represents program needs to the Department Chair in the process of strategic planning in accordance with the institution’s mission and vision
  • Updates and documents program strategic planning and objective oversight through necessary management systems
  • Oversight of Occupational Therapy Graduate Program Admissions Committee to include prospect needs, application process, course equivalency determination, and onboarding of new students

Performance Improvement Responsibility:

  • Maintains involvement in professional organizations
  • Develops improvement plans for the program faculty and students to improve performance, as indicated by assessment results

Community Relations Responsibility:

  • Exhibits and models the characteristics of a Christian professional
  • Assists in establishing activities to sustain community based best practices site
  • Participates in program and University-wide service activities

Staffing/Labor/Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Faculty support and mentorship for teaching and advisement excellence
  • Faculty and staff selection and evaluation
  • Facilitation of student and employee grievances under the direction of the Department Chair and according to university policies      
  • Oversees all course instruction, department technology, and employee scheduling
Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills Preferred:

  • Extensive graduate teaching experience
  • History of scholarship in professional area of expertise

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Masters degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or other healthcare related area by an institution accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the USDE

Education Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree with clinical laboratory focus
  • Academic administrative and leadership experience at multiple levels

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 8 years of documented experience in the profession of medical laboratory sciennces. This must include:
    • History of scholarship
    • A minimum of three years of full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level
    • Administration experience to include program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting

Experience Preferred:

  • One year of experience as a Program Director

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Certification as MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP) to meet NAACLS requirements
  • Current ASCP-BOC certification

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Program Director, under the supervision of the Department Chair shall be responsible for the organization, management, administration, planning, periodic review, evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Graduate Program(s). The Program Director is responsible for providing leadership to the respective program(s) in harmony with its mission, in order that the philosophy, goals and objectives of the program may be achieved. The Program Director is provided 20% release time from teaching in order to meet the administrative needs of the program(s).
