You Will Be Responsible For:
Handles and tests clinical specimens for patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric patients.
Performs and evaluates quality control at the intervals and levels of acceptability as defined by the laboratory according to regulatory guidelines.
Performs maintenance and function checks on all laboratory equipment and takes responsibility in troubleshooting instrumentation.
Reports all “panic/critical” values according to lab policy based on approved ranges for each age group.
Maintains accurate records of all remedial actions taken when QC, PM or function checks fail to meet established limits.
Monitors computer system for system errors, incomplete reports and accurate order entry.
Submits appropriate charge adjustments relative to test order cancellations and/or test order revisions.
Assists laboratory support staff with clerical and phlebotomy tasks as required by staffing and patient volume including neonatal and infant “heel stick” procedures and all routine venipunctures.
What You Will Need:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Effective communication among employees, and between employees, patients, visitors and supervisors is essential to ensure quality patient care and to avoid misunderstanding, errors and miscommunications which could have a detrimental effect on the health, safety and well-being of patients and co-workers. In addition to these communication and safety concerns, individuals in this position must be able to effectively review patient and related medical records, understand nurse and/or physician verbal and written instructions, read labels of laboratory supplies, safety information and hazardous chemicals. Therefore, to prevent misunderstandings, errors, and miscommunications in the provision of quality patient care and other job-related services, employees in this position are required to have the capability of fluently speaking, reading, and writing English.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
One of the following is required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Physical or Biological science;
OR a Medical Technology Certificate from an accredited institution.
Current Registered Technologist (ASCP or equivalent)
A minimum of 3 months experience
Job Summary:
Maintains an efficient, productive, well-organized department, as well as being responsible for performing laboratory testing, which includes organizing, analyzing, performing, documenting and reporting. Facilitate the team process by assisting on the departmental and hospital level with the ultimate goal of customer satisfaction.
