Work Hours/Shift:
Per Diem shifts will be based on when needed 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs as a team member in assisting with the therapeutic treatments as directed by a nurse or therapist.
  • Follows the directions of a nurse or therapist.
  • Assists and supervises patients performing ADL’s (bathing, grooming, dressing, eating and toileting) as directed by the therapist.
  • Assists patients with donning/doffing (putting on and removing of) assertive and supportive devices such as braces, splints, and slings.
  • Adjusts the fit of supportive and assistive devices for patients as instructed.
  • Secures patients into or onto rehabilitative equipment and monitors subsequent patient safety.
  • Transports patients to and from treatment area or supervises patients who are self-transporting.
  • Transfers patients between conveyances and treatment equipment, using transfer techniques appropriate to the patient’s condition.
  • Supports and/or stabilizes patients to assist the therapist or therapist assistant to administer treatments, tests and evaluations.
  • Assist with therapy care programs as planned and directed by a therapist.
  • Safeguards, motivates and assists patients practicing exercises and functional activities.

  • Practice with use of assistive devices – crutches, canes, walkers
  • Maintains open communication with the therapist/therapist assistant regarding patient’s performance and progress.
  • Observes the patient during treatment and reports signs of fatigue, distress and other problems they feel warrant attention.
  • Monitors vitals as directed.
  • Changes linens and arranges treatment supplies and equipment according to standard procedure or written or oral instruction.
  • Cleans all work areas and equipment after treatment:
  • Cleans gym area, treatment areas, and equipment, including but not limited to: ADL wheelchairs, mats, and spray down walkers and canes.
  • Complete temperature logs for the Hydro collator, Hydro collator-freezer, refrigerator and freezer in ADL area and refill as needed.
  • Weekly maintenance of reorganization of equipment in storage closet. 
  • Annually performs an inventory of all equipment 
  • Performs daily crash cart check in therapy gym and documents same to ensure all equipment is working properly
  • Transports patients to and from community outings
  • May use hospital van to transfer patients as needed
  • Acts as a communication liaison for the patient, facility and interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Communicates changes in therapy scheduling to the appropriate staff.
  • Assists in controlling cost to the patient and the department.
  • Utilizes the principles of cost containment by conserving equipment, supplies and personal time, and ensures that charges are properly recorded.
Qualifications

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Florida Certified Nurse Assistant certification required or enrolled in the second semester of LPN courses or enrolled in a Physical/ Occupational Therapy program. 
  • Driver’s License required.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year previous Patient Care experience and or previous Rehab experience preferred.
