You will be responsible for:
  • The Patient Safety Officer has primary oversight of the facility-wide patient safety programs. This leadership role directs staff within the organization toward process improvements that support the reduction of medical/ health care errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes. In addition, the FHC Patient Safety Officer:
  • Develops, Maintains and Chairs the Patient Safety Council, including maintaining the Patient Safety Dashboard and presenting it to QIC.
  • Conduct, document and maintain FMEA (Failure Mode Event Analysis) as required for regulatory standards.
  • Provides Oversight for Risk Management Event Analysis, Loss Control Initiative implementation, Risk Management Data Management, and Internal Claims Management program – Hospital Based.
  • Maintains responsibility for all aspects of the risk management program as defined in FS 395.0197. 
  • Ensures risk management regulatory compliance with federal and accreditation entities. (such as CMS and TJC)
  • Ensures regulatory compliance through review, investigation, and resolution of the patient complaint/grievance process.
  • Serves as a Risk Management resource to departmental staff, hospital staff, physicians, and other allied health professionals as needed.
  • Ensures risk management data is reported routinely to facility administration and Board of Directors as outlined in AHS Risk Management Program.
  • Coordinates and instructs Business Office personnel to suspend billing pending claim investigation. Authorizes Administrative adjustments if necessary.
  • Direct departmental functions utilizing key performance indicators and extending excellence principles to effectively identify and reduce organizational risk.
  • Provides Oversight as needed/requested by AHS Risk Management for risk financing and claims management.
  • Identifies known and potential exposures to accidental loss on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains responsibility for the review of all event reports to ensure potentially compensable events are reported to Adventist Health System (AHS) Risk Management as required.
  • Direct and coordinate claim management program to align with AHS Risk Management operations.
  • Direct internal claims management program and fairly negotiate resolution of GL and HP claims within established settlement authority.
  • Analyzes exposure to loss on an ongoing basis and reports information to administration and facility Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for gathering of underwriting information and insurance specifications at time of renewal for AHS Risk Management.
  • Develop and maintain department(s) budget.

  • Develops, Maintains and Chairs the Environment of Care. Responsible for oversight, development and evaluation of each of the six (6) Management Plans elements of performance to regulatory agencies.

  • Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management Coordinator for FHC
  • The Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management Coordinator will coordinate and manage the Emergency Management Plan and Disaster Preparedness functions of Florida Hospital Carrollwood including all on and off campus facilities, and will maintain compliance of those functions in accordance with the standards set forth by the Joint Commission.
  • The Emergency Management Coordinator will maintain compliance and training as required by the National Incident Management Integration Center (NIC). The Emergency Management Coordinator will coordinate and manage all purchases and allocations related to any Emergency /Disaster preparedness grants, and will serve as member of the county and Sates healthcare Coalition.
  • The Emergency Management Coordinator must be able to provide management of processes related to planning and coordinating emergency management operations and disaster services including, but not limited to, design and implementation of emergency exercises, training staff in emergency management and service operations, updating policies and plans and serving as the liaison with other agencies for the purpose of coordinating emergency operations.

Qualifications
What will you need?
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated successes in the field of Health Care and Patient Safety.
  • Skilled in the identification and prevention of potential areas of risk/ patient safety, including complaint resolution
  • Extensive experience in the investigation and analysis of incidents and claims.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, research, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively – both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability and willingness to interact in a professional manner with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, patients’ families, visitors, and attorneys especially under stressful conditions.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with personal computers, software and special applications, such as Cerner, RiskMaster, Microsoft Office (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task by overseeing Patient Safety and Risk Management duties as assigned.
  • Current Florida Driver’s License.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to work with personal computers and software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Risk Management software applications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Three (3) year experience in hospital risk management and demonstrated successes in the field of Health Care.
  • Three (3) plus years along with risk or legal certification/license may substitute for registered nurse license.
  • Current Florida registered Nurse License.
  • Current Florida Healthcare Risk Mangers Licenses
