You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Manages the operations and programs of assigned pharmacy areas to ensure accurate and timely medication distribution, optimize medication utilization, minimize product waste, maximize inventory turns, optimize pharmacy supply use, and maximize staff productivity.
  • Manages, monitors, and evaluates staff performance in assigned pharmacy areas to ensure accuracy and quality of services, completion of all tasks, and mitigation and correction of deficiencies.
  • Actively performs all pharmacist functions and maintains active proficiency by staffing in operational programs, participating in dispensing and compounding activities, utilizing hospital computer systems and medication ordering systems, following established standard work parameters, and maintaining standard work environments.
  • Proactively uses data analysis techniques to track, monitor, and communicate the operational, clinical quality, and financial outcomes of assigned areas and to benchmark performance against internal targets and against local and national best practices. 
  • Serves as a preceptor/educator for pharmacy residency and student experiential education programs, including maintaining proficiency in the four preceptor roles and active education/mentorship skills.


Qualifications
What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree
  • Three or more years of contemporary hospital pharmacy practice experience
  • Current, valid State of Florida Pharmacist license

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Expertise using Cerner pharmacy solutions and services
  • Expertise using Pyxis automated dispensing technology
  • Expertise in USP 797 guidelines
  • Working analytical and data management skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of the accreditation requirements of Det Norske Veritas and International Organization for Standardization quality management systems
  • Working knowledge of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists National Practice Standards
  • Ability to integrate clinical and distributive pharmacy services with quality improvement, teaching, research, and professional development activities
  • Ability to teach, precept, and facilitate experiential training
  • Strong written communication skills
 
Preferred:
  • Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Pharmacy or Pharmacy Administration, Master of Business Administration, or other advanced degree in pharmacy or healthcare leadership
  • PGY1 (post-grad year 1) Pharmacy Residency and PGY2 (post-grad year 2) Specialty Residency, or PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency
  • Pharmacy leadership with supervisory experience
  • Practice experience in a large hospital (greater than 500 bed institution) and integrated healthcare system (three or more hospitals in system)  
  • Current, valid State of Florida Consultant Pharmacist license
  • Eligible for registration as a pharmacist preceptor with the Florida Board of Pharmacy and the various schools of pharmacy located within the State of Florida
  • Board certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties
Job Summary:
 

Primary responsibility is front-line management of pharmacy operational areas, including accountability for customer services to inpatient and outpatient care areas.  Individual oversight assignments include the central operations of the main hospital pharmacy, the sterile operations of the cleanroom pharmacy, ( in Orlando, the satellite operations of the Ginsberg pharmacy, the satellite operations of the operating room and CVICU pharmacies, or the satellite operations of the inpatient oncology pharmacy).  Responsible for direct oversight of day-to-day operations in assigned pharmacy areas including personnel assignments and activities, medication dispensing programs, pharmacy automation, and medication inventory to ensure effective and timely provision of pharmacy services and medication therapy.  Supervises staff and actively participates in operations to ensure accurate evidence-based medication services are provided to patients and pharmacy support services are available to medical and nursing staff to improve medication utilization and enhance treatment outcomes.  Facilitates communication between shifts and supports pharmacist and technician scheduling, including coordinating for pharmacy staffing shortages.  Provides education to staff, enforces departmental and institutional policies, and initiates development plans or corrective action to pharmacy staff as needed and in collaboration with other managers.    Actively manages human, capital, and operational resources to collaboratively support patient-care services, medication safety systems, regulatory compliance initiatives, and quality assurance programs throughout the Department of Pharmacy.
