You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Serves in a management position and is responsible for the successful operation of the Plant Services and Environmental Services departments.
  • Plan, organize and direct team members to ensure the highest degree of cleanliness and resident satisfaction.
  • Orients, instructs, and supervises staff.  Assigns duties, evaluates job performance, and is involved in routine personnel matters.
  • Resolve employee satisfaction concerns in a timely manner, assuring they have been thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions taken, including notification of Employee/Relations/Human Resources, if necessary.
  • Responsible for staff management including retention, interviewing, hiring, evaluation, disciplining, performance management and documentation.
  • Is responsible for coordinating the work of Plant Services and Environmental Services with other departments so as not to interrupt resident care or normal functions.
  • Inspects all equipment and systems regularly for proper functioning and safety.  Schedules all repair, preventative maintenance and replacement work.  (Includes all fire and smoke alarm systems.)
  • Plans, directs, and supervises maintenance programs. (Heating, coding, plumbing, water, gas, electrical, mechanical, oxygen, communications, painting and similar work, heavy duty cleaning, grounds care, and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.)
  • Manage the daily activities of the Environmental Services and Laundry departments to include appropriate cleaning of all offices, resident areas, employee areas, public spaces and all laundry services provided.
  • Ensures that the department is maintained in a clean and sanitary condition according to department standards and state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor linen usage and statistics to assure adequate quality and quantity is provided.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of linens for providing care to meet residents’ needs.
  • Develop and implement of departmental policies, procedures and standard of work.
  • Purchase, re-order and maintain housekeeping and laundry supplies and inventory.
  • Responsible for budgetary planning, and financial performance of the department. Manage the existing Environmental Services budget, including linen. Identify potential capital budget expenditures. Develop the following year annual budget for approval
  • Determine and maintain the department staff and work flow schedules.
  • Initiate and/or participate in methods to reduce labor related expenses (i.e. FTE reduction, overtime usage, PRN usage, agency usage, and census fluctuation).
  • Show evidence of productivity as measured by the goals of worked and paid FTE’s, and actively manage the overall department budget.
  • Demonstrate initiatives in developing, implementing, and analyzing quality improvement activities and outcomes of the departments.
  • Initiate activities to enhance revenues and support cost reduction and containment activities.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of all equipment utilized by managed departments; identify need for repair and/or replacement of worn and damaged equipment.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with other departments.
  • Oversee the facility’s waste streams i.e. Regular, Biomedical, Hazardous, Recycled, and Confidential and assures that proper disposal is being followed.
  • Identify and correct environmental and practice safety issues.
  • Oversees the collection of soiled linen and clothing from the nursing unit.
  • Assist in sorting and washing of linens and clothing, as needed.  Ensure soiled items are properly separated from clean linens during the process of laundry operations.
  • Ensure proper Infection Control procedures are followed by all department staff.
  • Oversee terminal cleaning according to established procedures after each discharge.
  • Perform the tasks of Environmental Services employees as staffing or business needs demand.
  • Maintain professional conduct while interacting with residents.
  • Responsible for coordinating deliveries and the distribution of supplies.
  • On call for emergencies.
  • Attends staff education, training and other meetings

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • Experience as a building trade helper, apprentice, environmental services, and laundry, or equivalent,
  • Supervises all employees in Plant Services, Environmental Services and Laundry Departments
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid state driver’s license in good standing
  • Proficient in the use of a computer
  • Typing of 40 wpm

Job Summary:

The Plant Services & EVS Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Plant Services and Environmental Services Department and for management of its human, material and financial resources. The Director organizes, directs, and supervises all assigned operations which includes building, equipment and grounds. The Director also maintains a working knowledge of current industry standards including the care and cleaning of the facility’s linen and environments and integrates that knowledge into daily practice. The Director will work cooperatively with other leaders throughout the facility to achieve quality, satisfaction and financial goals. General responsibilities include overseeing and directing the day-to-day operation of the Plant Services and Environmental Services Departments ensuring a well maintained, clean, orderly and safe environment.
