You Will Be Responsible For:

  1. Performs assessments on patients and determines the nursing needs of assigned patients.
  • Assesses patient/family needs in relation to presenting problem, care needs, physical condition and learning needs.
  • Performs head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
  • Identifies problems and or/or nursing diagnosis and plans for nursing interventions.
  • Anticipates patient care problems and initiates corrective actions.
  • Recognizes abnormal diagnostic laboratory data, blood gas values, radiologic data, and knows the significance of each. Recognizes the patient’s and family’s perception of hospitalization and health status.
  • Recognizes therapeutic drug levels.
  • Identifies the patient’s learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet them while including the family in the process.

  • Maintains equipment in its proper working condition, identifies malfunctioning equipment, and takes appropriate action.
  • Reviews current literature and other available resources
  • Shows self-direction and leadership by functioning without the need for close supervision
  • Attends all hospital mandatory in-services.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to maintain a harmonious working relationship with physicians, and other staff members.
  1. Maintains proficiency in the role of circulator during an invasive/interventional procedure.
  • Adheres to approved standards of aseptic technique during an invasive imaging procedure.
  • Administers IVs, medications, and contrast material under the supervision of the attending physician.
  • Administers moderate/mild sedation under the direct supervision of the physician.
  • Assess the patient’s status on arrival and throughout the catheterization by demonstrating knowledge of electrocardiographic, hemodynamic, and hematological data while updating the physician of any potential life threatening changes throughout the procedure.
      • Demonstrates and practices proper radiation protection measures.
      • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and follows proper procedure protocols.
      • Documents appropriately in patient’s medical record.
      • Follows current trends and practices in the cath lab.
      • Implements emergency measures necessary to meet the needs of the patient.
      • Provides for the delivery of patient care and demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients and family members as defined in the mission of our facility.
      • Utilizes equipment and supplies in a safe and prudent manner.
  1. Maintains proficiency in the role of scrubbing invasive/interventional percutaneous angiographic procedures
  • Demonstrates the ability to practice sterile technique
  • Maintains proficiency in operating imaging equipment
  • Other duties as assigned
  1. Maintains proficiency in the role of monitor during an invasive/interventional procedure
  • Demonstrates ability to operate hemodynamic monitoring station.
  • Assess the patients’ status on arrival and throughout the catheterization by demonstrating knowledge of electrocardiographic, hemodynamic, and hematological data. Updates the physician of any potential life threatening changes throughout the procedure.
  • Documents appropriately in the patient’s medical record.
  • Implements emergency measures necessary to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Training specific to the Cardiac Cath Lab
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing


    • Two (2) years of critical care experience
    • Minimum 500 hours interventional Cath Lab experience


  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • State of Florida License in Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support


  • Critical Care Registered Nurse Certification
  • RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist)

Performs a wide range of technical skills which are utilized during cardiac catheterization and invasive imaging procedures to provide an efficient, comfortable, and safe examination.
