Work Hours/Shift:

FT Time/Days


•     Oversees timely evaluation, discharge planning and skilled treatment of all therapy staff

•     Participates actively in the process of monitoring, guiding, and evaluating staff performance

•     Contributes to the efficient operation of the department by assisting with coordinating activities, prioritizing workflow, promoting decision-making, and problem solving

•     Performs the duties of one of the following: occupational/physical/speech therapist

•     Provides consultations and manages patients requiring complex or advanced treatment

•     Serves as a positive role model for staff and patients by working collaboratively to promote teamwork and cooperation

•     Hires and orients new staff to assigned area to familiarize them with area processes, equipment, safety and operational plans as demonstrated by staff correctly carrying out patient care according to policies, procedures and protocols

•     Interviews, hires and orients clinical staff, completes clinical competencies with new hires and each clinical staff member prior to annual review. Completes clinical staff annual performance appraisals. Approves clinical staff continuing education requests and forwards to clinical management team. Coordinates in-services by clinical staff and vendors.  Actively serves as a mentor or assigns a mentor from the team to new graduates  

•     Engages in promoting evidence-based standards of care and lifelong learning through autonomous and collaborative participation in research, journal club/reviews, teaching/mentoring/clinical instructor, and/or clinical practice education within a peer group

•     Assists in daily operations including active involvement in clinical and service rounding, develops and delivers clinical content at staff meetings. Conducts staff meetings and completes management reports as needed. Investigates, responds to, and resolves complaints independently.  Is available as a clinical resource for physicians, patients and staff.  Escalates issues, as appropriate, to the manager or senior management team for resolution

•      Determines clinician and tech schedules of the center to best meet the patients’ needs and performs schedule consolidation on a daily basis so that each patient meets the plan of care as agreed upon by the patient and referring physician. Willingly adjusts to changes in patient census by altering working hours to assist in other centers/programs as needed

•     Maintains area-specific productivity standards and productivity and overall performance as observed via documentation (i.e., scorecards)

•     When available, and as required, assists with patient care, within scope of practice, following PT, OT and SLP staff job description “Duties and Responsibilities” sections

•     Performs evaluations, treatment and discharges according to standards of practice, accrediting bodies, department policies, and payers’ guidelines. Documents using measurable and objective data and terminology. Charges accurately, completely and timely according to guidelines of the CPT codes format, price file and payer guidelines

•     Regularly participates in marketing to physicians/physician practices to build referral relationships with a minimum of two contacts per month. Ensures that clinical team is meeting the marketing expectation of their job description. Supports consumer marketing and public awareness through participation in community events, educational lectures/speaking, and/or other extension of clinical expertise to the community as approved by manager or director

•     Monitors staff, volunteers and equipment needs, revenue, expenses and labor tracking. Establishes plan for variances and monitors results as observed by the Director/Associate Director/Senior Manager

•     Plans and implements employee engagement activities. Systematically provides staff with feedback regarding their performance. Counsels staff as needed, documents counseling sessions, monitors compliance and works with HR regarding disposition as needed. Completes staff performance appraisals accurately, legibly and within established time frame. Ensures employee’s department file complies with HR and accrediting bodies’ rules and regulations

•     Acts as a liaison between Hospital Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine as well as other hospital staff, physicians, patients and/or patient families in order to investigate, respond and resolve complaints. Disseminates pertinent information to appropriate staff members as observed by the Director/Associate Director/Senior Manager

•     Complies with policies and procedures of the facility and ensures compliance with standards outlined by regulatory agencies and surveyors

•     Performs other duties as assigned



•           Ability to monitor staff productivity and provide coaching feedback to increase quality and productivity standards

•     Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry

•     Ability to assign physical therapists work and monitor patient progress

•     Up-to-date knowledge of physical therapy standards and techniques to help guide clinical leadership and staff

•     Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office 

•     Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English


•           Two years of experience in a clinical setting

•           Minimum of three years assessing and interpreting patient clinical and functional data in a hospital, outpatient, home health or skilled nursing facility (SNF) setting



•           Three years of management experience



•           Licensed in applicable state

•           Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

•           Board certification from an accredited body


•           Manages all therapy staff
