What You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Communicates with courtesy when interacting with internal or external customers. Promptly responds to multiple departments regarding respiratory supplies and medical gas issues.
  • Demonstrates appropriate and courteous phone etiquette
  • Demonstrates respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships with other departments.
  • Provides non-direct patient care support services for respiratory therapy department.
  • Management and distribution of medical gas cylinders including inventory and cylinder transport to all patient care.
  • Make daily rounds to assigned areas to deliver, check, change and set-up equipment.
  • Direct Supply-Chain management for all ordering/stocking and inventory of the RT Department supplies.
  • Maintain all respiratory supply areas to optimal par levels. Coordinates with Nursing unit leaders to maintain an organized stock/supply room.
  • Stock respiratory and medical gas supply equipment in all patient areas.
  • Check all soiled utility rooms for respiratory equipment.
  • Frontline troubleshooting of all broken or damaged respiratory equipment including equipment removed from service by staff. Assists in the management of all rental equipment.
  • Set up ventilator and critical care Bi-level breathing machines including routine operational system checks.
  • Communication with Vendors/Reps and outside business partners regarding new equipment for the department. Includes ownership of bronchoscope exchange/repair process.
  • Practices standard precautions and enforces safety regulations according to hospital policies on a continual basis.
  • Documents and charges for procedures accurately and completely.
  • Demonstrates respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships with other departments.

What You Will Need:

  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Disassemble, clean, reassemble and test respiratory equipment.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use computer and perform data entry.
  • Ensure Infection Control

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School education or equivalent
  • Previous experience in hospital setting preferred.  
  • Previous hospital materials management experience preferred

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Student enrolled in a 2 or 4-year Accredited Respiratory Care Program

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Licensure, Certification or Registration Preferred:

  • ACLS, PALS, NRP required within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must obtain a State of Georgia license as a Certified Respiratory Therapist within 3 months of graduating and registry within 1 year.

Job Summary

  • The respiratory care equipment technician works under the supervision of the respiratory department leadership team and with the guidance of licensed respiratory care practitioners to prepare, transport, set up and check respiratory care equipment in both routine and emergency situations including the management and distribution of medical gas cylinders to all patient care areas.
  • Attend and/or perform all annual mandatory staff requirements.
  • Follow all AHS HR policies regarding employee code of conduct and the employee handbook.
