Will Be Responsible For:

  • Performs general nursing activities, ensuring quality care and efficient/timely flow of patients.
  • Provides direct patient care, incorporating the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) prior to, during and after all clinical services/procedures.
  • Assists in the management of VAD patients on an outpatient basis.
  • Manages outpatient Anticoagulation Clinic under the direction of Physician and/or APP.
  • Manages outpatient CardioMems Clinic under the direction of Physician and/or APP.
  • Performs 6 Minute Walk Tests on Advanced Heart Failure patients.
  • VAD Driveline dressing changes and education to patient’s family.
  • Assists Ramp Studies of VAD patients.
  • Participates in patient selection committees.
  • Liaison with shared care facilities for patient continuity.
  • Assists with VAD equipment; performs VAD device interrogations and management as needed.
  • Assists with IV management of patients who require IV fluids and IV medications (i.e., diuretics) to prevent hospitalizations.
  • Performs lab draws in office as needed for patients (supervises BMP/BNP in office).
  • Provides education for patients and families post VAD implants.
  • Manages, lab results, EKGs, and imaging results; provides results to Physician and APP. 
  • Manages specialty medications and prescription refills to ensure medication compliance.
  • Schedules pre-op testing for VAD patients; works with surgical scheduler on VAD implant scheduling and/or procedure scheduling of patients with VAD.
  • Collects patient information and assessment data on VAD patients.
  • Assists Physician and APP with procedures/treatments/examinations (preparation, positioning, supplies, and equipment).
  • What You Will Need:

•           BSN preferred; graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.

•           Minimum two years professional nursing experience; Cardiology office/clinic preferred.

•           Minimum one-year experience with supervision of Anticoagulation Clinic and VAD interrogation/management services.

•           Current and valid Florida Board of Nursing Registered Nurse License.

•           Required to have VAD certification within the first month of employment and will be set up with Abbott through AdventHealth.

•           Maintains current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

•           Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

Performs a wide variety of professional nursing care activities and accommodates services for the physicians and the practice in the care of Advanced Heart Failure patients and patients with Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD).  Candidate follows established standards, practices, policies, and procedures. Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
