Work Hours/Shift:

•           Full Time - Nights

You Will Be Responsible For:   
 Scores sleep/wake stages by applying established guidelines.  Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, to facilitate scoring and interpretation of test results.  Performs quality Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT).  Accurately scores the polysomnogram with respect to sleep stages, apnea events and myoclonus.  Reviews studies with physicians. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Performs quality Multiple Sleep Latency Test recordings by collecting pertinent patient history information, properly preparing the patient according to age, conducting the examination and preparing the recording for the physician interpretation.
  • Informs the Supervisor, and/or the physician of changes in the patient’s condition or abnormalities on the recording.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for patient care and maintains an orderly and efficient system for storage and retrieval of patient information.
  • Scores sleep studies according to established guidelines.

Quality Assurance

  • Performs quality assurance reviews of sleep studies to determine the team quality of recording scores.
  • Accurately documents, posts, and charges for procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital.
  • Actively supports and participates in department and hospital quality improvement initiatives as directed.
  • Participates on process or performance improvement team and proactively initiates process improvement ideas.
  • Maintains quality of recording scores within established guidelines.
  • Participates in scoring reliability studies per the AASM guidelines and maintains a score within the established acceptable range.

Safety and the Environment of Care

  • Adheres to hospital infection control and safety standards.
  • Ensures equipment is in good working condition and initiates appropriate contacts when repairs are required.

Meeting Attendance

  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Attends other meetings as requested.

Communication/Cooperation

  • Receives and gives report clearly to communicate patient care information to provide optimal care. 
  • Communicates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality patient care.
  • Keeps supervisor informed and seeks assistance and direction from appropriate individuals when confronted with unfamiliar procedures and techniques, before implementing them, to ensure deliverance of safe and effective patient care.
  • Communicates with patients and family members appropriate to age and instructs them in techniques to optimize their care in the hospital, as well as after discharge.
  • Receives assignments, instructions, and guidance from supervisor and is compliant with supervisor special requests as situations dictate.

Qualifications
What Will You Need:        

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Able to closely observe sleep tracing and respond appropriately to apnea events and other abnormalities.
  • Knowledge of sleep procedures and equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to closely observe sleep tracing and respond appropriately to seizure activity and other abnormalities;
  • Ability to prepare and calibrate equipment to determine proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to published standards.
  • Ability perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Ability to perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft® Office applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum six months polysomnography experience or successful completion of a sleep program.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience on  Nihon Kohden equipment and software
  • Experience scoring sleep studies

       PREFERRED LICENSURE OR REGISTRATION:

  • Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BPRT) Certification as a Registered Polysomnographist or equivalent.
