You Will Be Responsible For:  

The Senior Manager-MCS/Acute Shock, Advanced Practice Provider (APP) by training, will continue to enhance, lead, and coordinate the combined Adult Acute Shock, MCS, and ECMO Programs serving the Acute Cardiac Shock Units, as well as the other AdventHealth campuses that serve these programs.  Patient populations include the care of Advanced and Chronic Heart and Lung Failure, Heart Transplant, Lung Transplant, Mechanical Circulatory Support, complex cardiac medical and surgical patients, and Acute Shock including ECMO.  Collaborates with other AH leadership and has scope in all activities in the Acute Shock Program with a focus on orientation, in-service education, policy and competency development, documentation, compliance to all standards of care and participation in community outreach. The Senior Manager-MCS/Acute will be responsible with the assessment, design/develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs assuring all regulatory agency requirements are met.  Duties will include driving and assisting with the development and maintenance of orientation program, planning, and coordinating staff in-services conducted by professionals both within and outside the center, and serving as the lead resource for staff.  The position will work closely in both the acute care, out-patient and AH network with the Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Chief Perfusionist, Advanced Practice Providers, Physician Leaders, ACSU management team and staff nurses to continually assess educational needs and outcomes for all nursing levels. The Senior Manager-MCS/Acute Shock will work directly with the AH Florida Mission Control Center to help manage the prioritization of referrals, be able to provide clinical guidance to outside facilities managing patients until they transfer to Transplant facility. Responsible in maintaining records for intake and discharge of this patient population and referral database. Actively participate in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.


What You Will Need:


  • MS Nursing Degree or Physician Assistant


  • Two (2) years of leadership experience


  • Current ARNP/PA license in the state of Florida


  • Certification in a quality improvement methodology/toolset such as Lean, Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt), Change Management, etc.
  • Project management certification such as Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP)


  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to focus detailed concentrated efforts to multiple projects and re-establish priorities as necessary. Ability to effectively respond to time sensitive issues and meet deadlines

  • Responsible for the Human Resource Management needs for his/her respective program to include, but not limited to the following:
  • Selects applicant for interview and hire and assures appropriate orientation.
  • Monitors performance of the staff and takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate.
  • Evaluates supervised employees, recommends promotion of supervised employees, and recommends bonuses and awarding of other discretionary rewards to supervised employees.
  • Suspend or invoke other discipline for work infractions, performance deficiencies and conduct violations by exercising supervisory authority. When necessary, collaborates with the Human Resources Department, terminates supervised employees, where appropriate.
  • The assignment of employees to particular duties or activities or to authorize and assign overtime to employees where appropriate.
  • Ensures adequate call schedule coverage to ensure a 24/7 coverage of the inpatient and outpatient services at all times.
  • The adjustment/resolution of complaints, concerns, and problems of supervised employees regarding work assignments, hours of work overtime scheduling, and other work-related matters.

Job Summary:

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Responsible for developing and providing Leadership and Clinical Practice Knowledge in his/her program to include, but not limited to the following:

Compliance/Regulatory Responsibility:

  • Ensures that his/her respective program meets the standards of all federal and state accrediting and regulatory bodies to include, but not limited to:
  • Actively participates in surveys/audits (on-site and desktop) from regulatory and licensing agencies.
  • In collaboration with the AHTI Senior Manager of Operations and Compliance and the Quality team and the ACSU Leadership team, executes Corrective Action Plans created in response to recommendations for improvement and deficiencies identified by regulatory agencies.

Operating & Capital Budget/Financial Responsibility:

  • Will work closely with AHTI, CCM, and CVI leadership to understand the financial impact of care delivery
  • Understands the broad impact of reimbursement on the delivery of patient care services, including but not limited to Medicare, Managed care, Medicaid, third party providers, challenges to current health care policies, and key legislative initiatives at the local, state, and national level.
  • Assist with the final submission of the annual financial operating budget for the program.
  • Routinely reviews, analyzes, and interprets-department based budgeting model ensuring staffing and scheduling, and resource utilization are within budgeted targets for the unit.
  • Is involved in capital budgeting; may be required to produce a cost benefit analysis to justify requested equipment.
  • Monitors and adjusts in allocating resources throughout the program to maintain efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Strategic Planning Responsibility:

  • Actively participates with strategic planning process and execution of selected strategies at local and system level to include, but not limited to:
  • Conducts an annual review of his/her respective program, its practices and objectives, in order to determine alignment with SBU Business Plan and Strategic Vision. Makes recommendations in writing to the Executive Director to the outcome of such reviews and provide recommendations for implementation of resolutions, which would reflect optimal program performance and effectiveness.
  • Identifies and recommends priorities to the Executive Director of AHTI for services to be offered by the AHTI for future growth that will benefit AHTI and AdventHealth Orlando. 
  • Evaluate and assists in developing and administering a strategic business action plan that will increase the number of potential Acute Shock candidate referrals to the AHO; including site visits to referring cardiologists and pulmonologists.

Performance Improvement Responsibility:

  • Responsible for the Performance Improvement needs for his/her respective program to include, but not limited to the following:
    • Regularly reviews and analyzes the performance indicators for his/her respective program (SRTR, CMS, JHACO, ELSO).
  • Champion’s performance improvement activities and execution of QAPI through problem identification, assessment, data gathering, change implementation, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Is able to participate in all aspects of patient safety but not limited to: sentinel event monitoring and reporting, root cause analysis, DNV (regulatory agency) requirements, incident reporting, medication safety policies and procedures.
  • Assures workplace safety for the employees and demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements for workplace safety, i.e., CMS, OSHA, DNV, ELSO etc.
  • Supports continual process improvement by sponsoring and/or participating in the activities.
  • Ensures that practice changes, as a result of performance improvement activities, are implemented.
  • Sets quality standards and initiatives for the department through collaboration with leadership and implementation of evidence-based practice where appropriate.
  • Track and follow referrals for Acute Shock Program.
  • Track program outcomes

Community Relations Responsibility:

  • Actively involved in ensuring Communication and Relationship Building with internal and external stakeholders in the acute shock process: This includes, but is not limited to:
