You Will Be Responsible For:

Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors at AdventHealth University in harmony with the four values of Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality, and Stewardship.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Promote high standards of excellence and implement the goals and objectives of the University related to academic management
  • Maintain all activities in harmony with the objectives, values, and philosophy of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and AHU.
  • Initiate innovative academic programming
  • Forecast new program needs, in collaboration with other AHU leadership
  • Participate in academic related meetings for program oversight and advancement
  • Collaborate with the Provost for academic program oversight and Chair supervision
  • Maintain a spirit of harmony and unity in relationships with other University departments and programs.
  • Provide oversight for assigned support service departments
  • Demonstrate leadership and management in academic affairs
  • Ensure ethical and value standards are upheld by campus leaders
  • Handle all academic appeals
  • Chair appointed committees
  • Provide guidance to other academic leaders
  • Responsible for the oversight of the Dual Enrollment Program, Health Academy, AHU Graduation Programs, and undergraduate programs
  • Represent the University effectively at conferences, AH meetings and other assigned events
  • Participate on the University Presidents Senior Counsel
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Assure that cost centers for which they are responsible comply with Federal, State laws applicable to University Faculty, Staff and Students
  • Assure that their cost centers comply with policies established by the University Administration

OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Approve expenditures of all assigned departments
  • Give oversight to budgetary management needs of their cost centers
STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Gives direction and management to strategic plans of their cost centers and contributes to the overall University strategic planning processes.
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Promote an atmosphere conducive to personal and professional growth towards excellence.
  • Ensures Professional Development programs for faculty and staff in collaboration with the Director of Professional Development
  • Mentors department Directors and Chairs who report to him/her
  • Ensures an efficient and effective University annual performance evaluation system
COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Exhibits and models the characteristics of a Christian professional, cultivating positive working relationships with students and faculty. 
STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Provide oversight and direction to the leaders of departments who report to the VP
  • Takes an active role in the selection of department directors and other senior department leaders for assigned cost centers 

Qualifications
What You Will Need:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Orientation of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in understandable terms to all levels of faculty and staff
  • Effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals
  • Knowledge of computer programs related to educational duties which include, but not limited to, word processing, database management, complex data computation, analysis and graphics, presentation development, and distance learning technology; visual and auditory skills to use computer and other presentation equipment, including telecommunications
  • Commitment to staying current with emerging learning technologies
  • Knowledge of leadership and management strategies
  • Ability to strategically plan in collaboration with other leaders
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of five (5) years? experience as a full-time teacher in an accredited College or University
  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution is required
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a senior-level academic, administrative and leadership experience serving a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to working collaboratively with faculty and academic staff, as well as business and community partners
  • Experience with regional and specialized accreditation agencies, curriculum development and implementation, including developmental education, instructional technology planning, and program assessment
  • Experience with innovative educational initiatives, including online education
  • Demonstrated efforts to support research among faculty and students
  • Record of consistent scholarship
  • Proven track record of effective budget and resource management linked to institutional and departmental planning and assessment
  • Practical experience using data to support Academic Administration initiatives
  • Experience in clinical and/or academic arenas related to healthcare education and practice (Preferred)
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
  • Professional licensure as appropriate
  • Membership in affiliated professional organizations
Job Summary:

The Vice President for Academic Administration is responsible for activities related to educational

excellence, both oversight of assigned academic and service units and innovation in new channels, including online learning, virtual and augmented reality, and simulation. He/she is responsible for working collaboratively with the Provost to ensure an annual assessment of faculty, initiation of appropriate new programming and essential monitoring of existing academic programs. The management of a variety of academic aspects encompasses interfacing with many campus leaders to address unit needs, promote faculty development and ensure the appropriate leadership for advancing the University. The VP Academic Administration reports directly to the Provost.
