The role you’ll contribute:

Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Director, the Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for the supervision and management of daily pharmacy operations and activities in the Pharmacy Department. The scope of the position includes assuring the delivery of quality patient care through implementation and maintenance of medication preparation and distribution services. Assures effective supervision, staff development, appropriate staffing and promoting positive employee and guest relations. Establishes and maintains effective communication lines with other departments within the facility and other outside entities within the facility; assuring integration of Pharmacy activities and objectives within the Pharmacy Department through development and implementation of policies & procedures. Assures well organized work flow, as well as maintains labor productivity and financial data within the Pharmacy Department.

  • Demonstrates effective managerial judgment, fairness and consistency in managing employee relations

  • Incorporates recommendations or actions of subordinate personnel, when appropriate

  • Develops orientation, personnel training systems, positive role modeling, and recommendations for ongoing staff development (in services, CE, etc.)

  • Responsible for talent management and evaluation of competence of direct reports

  • Responsible for ensuring adequate staffing levels including flexing staffing in accordance with workload demands

  • Effectively interacts with all hospital-based personnel, including customers & those servicing Pharmacy

  • Maintains review of current policy and procedure manuals if applicable

  • Develops new policies and procedures, as required, with changes in regulations and/or support patient care services if applicable

  • Recommends departmental goals and objectives based on the unique aspect of patient care

  • Monitors operating expenses and implements action plan, when necessary

  • Modifies resource utilization to changing reimbursement trends

  • Evaluates and implements opportunities for enhancing cost-effective delivery of services

  • Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the department or organization

  • Manage the data and information systems components of the pharmacy

  • Manage the inventory control systems

  • Participate with the Director and Pharmacy Clinical Leadership in the clinical and financial evaluation of formulary medications

  • Assures that the pharmacy systems are in compliance with State and Federal laws and guidelines, Regulatory Agency laws and guidelines, the hospital mission statement and the hospital's policies and procedures, accrediting bodies and other regulatory standards

  • Participates in disciplinary activities of the department

  • Participates in the Quality Assurance and Improvement activities of the department and the hospital

  • Interviews and participates in the selection, orientation, scheduling and assignment of unit personnel

  • Provides for professional growth and development of Pharmacy employees through identification of training needs, sponsoring training programs, encouraging formal and continuing education and evaluation of same

  • Recommends necessary staffing, participates in development of department's operating and capital budgets, reviews periodic performance reports to budget, monitors changes and expenses and maintains expenditures within allocated funds

  • Participates in staff meetings monthly or as needed to facilitate active communication, team building, problem-solving and training

  • Seeks out opportunities to network with other hospitals within the health system as well as outside professional networking and development

  • Serves on committees as assigned

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy required.

  • Pharmacist credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required

  • Three years hospital experience OR completion of residency in health systems administration and leadership required

  • BLS Issued by the American Heart Association required

  • Three or more years of hospital/infusion experience preferred

  • Three or more years of experience in hospital leadership experience preferred

  • BCOP (Board certified oncology pharmacy specialist) preferred
