You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Corporate Infection Preventionist will act as a resource to the facility Infection Prevention and Control Sub-Committee Assist in the development and implementation of written policies and procedures for the prevention and control of infectious or communicable diseases within the facilities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of written policies and procedures for techniques and systems for identifying infections within the facilities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of facility pandemic plans.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of written policies and procedures for immunizations for residents and staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of necessary tools
  • Maintain working knowledge of updates provided from CDC, Federal, state, and local government agencies, and health departments.
  • Review current written infection control policies, techniques, and procedures at least annually
  • for necessary revisions or updates.
  • Maintain current knowledge of current standard of practice and changes in isolation techniques and procedures when necessary and implement changes through P&P development and implementation strategies as indicated.
  • Coordinate with departments such as IT, clinical informatics, and HR to evaluate opportunities to improve tracking, trending, and reporting utilizing available or created technology.
  • Provide education development at a frequency in coordination with identified needs. I.E weekly COVID calls during pandemic, monthly training calls with Infection preventionists, etc.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the content and scope of the employee health program and disseminating current information on health practices to the facilities.
  • Identify and coordinate response to actual or potential outbreaks of communicable illness or condition s within the facilities related to residents or staff, following established protocols and recognized industry standard of practice for continuous quality improvement, and make recommendations of changes if indicated
  • Notify Executive Director of Clinical Improvement of contagious or infectious diseases in a facility and work with the Infection Preventionist, Administrator, Director of Nursing, and appropriate government agencies to develop a response that follows acceptable standards of practice, state laws and federal regulations.
  • Oversees Infection Prevention activities in each AdventHealth skilled nursing facility and effectively recommends to Directors of Nursing on matters of performance of facility Infection Prevention staff.
  • During facility visits, review food handling practices, laundry practices, waste disposal, pest control, traffic control, visiting rules for high-risk areas, and sources of infection.
  • During facility visits, conduct infection control rounds and evaluate tasks performed within the facility to determine risk exposure potential to pathogens and blood and/or body fluids, and observation of techniques during medication and treatment observations.
  • During facility visits review and observe techniques used in maintenance of equipment, ice machines, water fountains, determine risk exposure potential to pathogens, and blood and/or body fluids.
  • During facility visits review isolation techniques and procedures to assure that personnel, residents, and visitors are following established procedures/precautions; and assure that an adequate number of protective supplies (i.e., gowns, gloves, masks, biohazard containers, etc.), are on hand for handling infectious wastes and/or blood/body fluids
  • During facility visits evaluate the disposal systems for liquid and solid waste.
  • Participate in facility mock survey process as indicated utilizing CMS tools related to infection control surveys.
  • Evaluate immunization programs and facility percentages to provide required reporting on the organizations status towards identified goals.
  • Develop and maintain reporting details on infection control organizational goals.
  • During facility visits review the process for monitoring the health status of employees, ensuring that personnel receive (as necessary) appropriate tests, chest x-rays, physicals, etc., prior to and during employment as outlined in personnel policies and in accordance with federal and state guidelines; (currently under ADON at present I believe)
  • Develop, implement, provide, and update an orientation process for facility Infection Preventionist. 
  • Assist in development of infection control training programs and monitor they are provided to
  • employees per established guidelines.
  • Review cleaning procedures, agents, and schedules for use and efficacy based on best practices for environmental infection control, recommending indicated changes in cleaning products or techniques with updates to policies and procedures as indicated.

Job Summary:

  • The Corporate Infection Preventionist has the role of development, oversight and coordination of infection prevention and control practices across all SNF facilities.
  • Coordination of these duties will be aligned through the Quality Assessment and Assurance (QA&A) process. The Corporate Infection Preventionist will collaborate with facility Infection Preventionists utilizing their role in the Infection Control Sub-committee of QA&A.

What you Will Need:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse or have obtained a temporary license in the State he/she will be working.
  • Must have completed specialized training in infection prevention and control per federal regulations.
    • Current enrollment in specialized training in infection prevention and control program may be considered with successful completion within 30 days of hire
