You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Oversees the system for identification and analysis of loss or injury exposure. In conjunction with Risk Management team.
  • Maintains both mandatory and voluntary incident reporting systems for identifying and evaluating unit specific risk issues.
  • Provides analysis on areas of risk throughout the enterprise for the purpose of identifying, evaluating, eliminating or reducing incidents in high risk areas.
  • Maintains documentation on identified trends and sentinel events, with referral to the appropriate committee, manager, or individual for follow-up. Monitors process improvement.
  • Maintains familiarity with and implements statutory requirements for hospitals’ Risk Management Program.
  • Plans, develops and maintains loss prevention activities.
  • Participates in Risk Management education for new employees, for General Medical Staff meetings, for Medicine/Surgery section meetings, and providers to enhance attention to prevention of potential hazards to patients, visitors and themselves.  Provides continuing education on a biannual and as needed basis.
  • Conducts monthly Mortality Review meetings in conjunction with CMO and Quality team representative
  • Serves, in conjunction with legal counsel, as a conduit of information on legal questions as they arise throughout the facility. Additionally, serves as an advisory resource in risk matters for clinical staff who encounter potentially litigious situations.
  • Coordinates, chairs/or facilitates RCA (root cause analysis) for the “serious risk thereof” or from serious harm or death.
  • Review of records and documentation for potentially compensable events, which are reported to AHS Corporate Risk Management. Additionally, provides for reporting of liability claims to administration as well as to AHS Corporate Risk Management for establishment of adequate loss reserves.
  • Assures the proper and timely investigation of accidents and incidents including gathering of information, sequestering of equipment and securing records
  • Provides for coordination of legal process in scheduling statements, depositions, trial appearances in response to subpoenas to employees on liability cases.
  • Assures that the hospitals, and associated hospital owned physician practices are represented at mediations, arbitrations and trials, as directed by legal counsel.
  • Assures facilitation of the patient grievance process as required by state and federal statutes.
  • Provides over site and direction for the Patient advocate; assures that the Patient Advocate directs inquiries and complaints to appropriate directors and managers. Authorizes write-offs or payments.
  • Oversees investigations of grievances with regard to medical care which involve a member of the medical staff and assures appropriate referral to the Chief Medical Officer, and referral for Peer Review.
  • Assures collection of data and maintenance of files/log on patient grievances as related to patient care and medical care. 
  • Encourages understanding and adherence by staff on patients’ rights and responsibilities through education in orientation and in annual updates.
  • Attends meetings as appropriate and required to disseminate risk program information and provide feedback, including General Medical Staff and section meetings for both AdventHealth Zephyrhills and Dade City.
  • Reports directly to the CMO and/or CEO monthly to review facility risk loss run, activities and regulatory updates.
  • Presents risk information to the Quality and Patient Safety Department as well as various Subcommittees as appropriate.
  • Assists administration and departmental personnel in development of policies and procedures that reflect Risk Management principles.
  • Produces appropriate internal Risk Management departmental program and policies as well as corporate-wide Risk Management policies.
  • Participates in regional, state, and national organizations directly concerned with Risk Management and Patient Safety.
  • Provides over site and management for the Patient Safety Organization activities at both AdventHealth Zephyrhills and Dade City.

What You Will Need:
  • Successful completion of bachelor’s degree program in nursing or another clinical health care related field.
  • Knowledge and competence in working with Risk Master
  • Registered Nurse with minimum of five years in the clinical setting
  • Minimum of 5 yrs. previous experience in Risk Management
  • Certification from an accredited Risk Management course/program.
  • Current Florida Risk Management license. 
  • Experienced Licensed Health Care Risk Manager (LHRM) with working knowledge of FL governing statue 395. 
  • FL Licensed RN with good understanding working knowledge of clinical settings; able to provide analysis of events from review of the medical records from multiple type specialties.
  • Ability to develop and provide education to a mixed variety of clinical and non-clinical staff as well as leadership.
  • Competent in use of standard computer and typing skills, and electronic medical record software.  
  • Registered Nurse with Master of Science degree

The Director of Risk Management develops and administers the Risk Management Program for loss prevention and claims control (according to federal, state, and local requirements) to meet the needs of the facility and interties of AdventHealth Zephyrhills and Dade City.
