You Will Be Responsible For:  

The Executive Director of Biomedical Engineering leads the strategic and operational direction of services system-wide ensuring safe, cost effective, and high-quality repair and service of medical equipment across the Central Florida Division. Develops and directs implementation of business plans and strategies aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives. Ensures all areas of responsibility are in a constant state of readiness for regulatory and compliance inspections.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Seven (7) years of leadership experience in biomedical or clinical engineering in an acute care environment such as hospital operations


    • Master’s degree in Clinical, Biomedical Technology, or related field


  • An experienced leader who knows how to effectively drive change in a complex and distributed yet system-oriented environment.
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of technology-based field service operations in a healthcare setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of DNV, Joint Commission, local, state, federal codes and industry standards in the medical equipment field
  • Extremely strong leadership, management and coaching skills with an emphasis on people development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to present complex information clearly and succinctly to all levels of staff, partners and senior leaders
  • Ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals


Job Summary:

  • Central Florida campuses.
  • Evaluates current biomedical systems and processes to develop and implement system-wide standards for a comprehensive biomedical program including preventative, corrective and routine maintenance, clinical equipment replacement and performance management of over 65,256 pieces of biomedical and imaging equipment in CFD-S alone.
  • Develops in-house education, recruitment and training program to reduce and/or eliminate outsourced radiology, cardiology, dialysis and ultrasound contracts resulting in quantifiable cost savings, reduction of equipment downtime and increased customer satisfaction.
  • Writes technical specifications for capital equipment purchases and participates in purchase negotiation and represents departmental services in the construction phase of hospital projects.
  • Responsible for maintaining readiness and compliance with standards as required by DNV, The Joint Commission, AHCA / CMS (Agency for Healthcare Administration / Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), AABB (American Association of Blood Banks), CAP (College of American Pathologists), CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and others common to the Biomedical Engineering field.
  • Works closely with Senior Management and Campus Administrators to develop and implement financial business plans and strategies aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives and support requirements.
  • Develops and creates ideas, processes and approaches that shape the future, takes risks and makes decisions based on facts. Uses analysis and critical thinking skills to solve problems and ensures that decisions are aligned with strategic directions of the organization.
