Work Hours/Shift:
PRN, as needed
You Will Be Responsible For:
Makes rounds to nursing floors at least once per hour to deliver large volume IV solutions and to deliver other medications and pick up medication orders when the tube system or fax machines are down.
Fills medication orders correctly and efficiently according to the medication label.
Prepares IV admixtures after proper training.
Cleans laminar flow hood correctly daily before and after IV’s are prepared.
Documents hood cleaning each shift.
Prepares all IV admixtures in laminar flow hood using proper sterile technique.
Restocks IV supplies as needed.
Pre-packs medication syringes as needed.
After proper certification, performs Chemotherapeutic Medication Admixture.
Prints and delivers computer reports in a timely manner.
Assists in the monitoring of medication stock levels.
Assists in checking in daily medication orders.
After proper training, restocks Pyxis units.
Checks all designated areas for outdated medication on a monthly basis.
Correctly enters all patient demographic information and charging information into computer system.
Answers telephone.
After proper training, re-packages medications into unit dose form as necessary.
After appropriate training, enters medication orders into the patient’s profile for pharmacist confirmation.
Maintains Pyxis units by adding/deleting/adjusting inventory; properly processing reports; troubleshooting.
Performs purchasing functions when necessary.
Provides all services associated with the Surgery Medication Room.
Assists with the Pharmacy Department Performance Improvement Program through data collection and evaluation.
What You Will Need:
Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to departmental standards when little direction is given.
Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stressful conditions.
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
CPhT certificate required.
IV certification required.
Experience in pharmacy or completion of a college based Pharmacy Technician Training Program is preferred.
Other certifications are preferred.
Job Summary:
The Certified Pharmacy Tech II performs the following duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Compounds and distributes medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving prescriptions/orders from a qualified prescriber; refills Pyxis as necessary; performs IV admixture using proper aseptic technique in the laminar flow hood; performs all other related duties such as rounding floors, computer report generation, stocking, etc.
