PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in accomplishing the Clinical Performance Improvement initiatives and Corporate Clinical Accountabilities identified by the organization.

  • Participates in Performance Improvement team formation and facilitation.

  • Utilizes clinical information systems to provide outcomes management data to support the facility’s quality programs.

  • Performs individual case review and root-cause analysis in conjunction with clinicians as requested.

  • Recognizes potential code 15 and/or Sentinel Event cases and reports them to Risk Management within 48 hours of discovery.

  • Uses available resources to provide guidance in quality and Performance Improvement initiatives to Medical Staff, Administration, and all Clinical and Ancillary Departments and provide accurate trending of QI metrics.

  • Works with the Director to convene various QI committees and work groups, set agenda to drive desired meeting outcomes, and ensure proper recording of committee activities.

  • Acts as knowledge expert for continuous quality improvement activities, educating staff regarding the QI process and accreditation requirements.

  • Oversees and performs quality of care reviews and medical record chart audits and recommends actions to address any identified improvement opportunities.

  • Manages and monitors core measure abstraction and reporting to achieve 100% compliance.

  • Oversees committee work for such items as mortality review, rapid response and other high-risk processes.

  • Assists in maintaining department and facility dashboards,

  • Writes/edits quality and safety materials and education for all areas of hospital staff.

  • Oversees and Participates in site visit preparation and execution for various regulatory and accreditation agencies including CMS, ACHA, Joint Commission.

  • Monitors, tracks and implements state and federal quality improvement reporting requirements.

  • Oversees monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual regulatory required performance reports and data submission.

  • Assists in developing the facility Quality Improvement Plan.

  • Assists in the development and oversees the implementation of programs and strategies under the direction of the Director.

  • Acts in a liaison capacity with other areas and business units.

  • Makes recommendations on matters of policy in area of expertise.

  • Helps to establishes and/or revise existing policies and procedures necessary for successful implementation of the Quality Improvement (QI) Program.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

  • Three (2) years in Performance Improvement Management/Leadership Role

  • Knowledge and skills necessary to deliver quality educational instruction to all levels of staff in a clear and concise manner in both written and verbal contexts

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel

  • Demonstrates ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational and analytical skills

  • Must demonstrate a strong customer service focus.  

  • Strong clinical workflow knowledge

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

 

    • Knowledgeable of current trends in quality improvement in health care

    • Ability to be flexible in the face of changing priorities

    • Ability to work effectively across departmental lines

•         Cerner EMR experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

  • BSN

  • Five plus years’ experience in an acute care setting

  • Two plus years as a Quality Nurse

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

 

•         Graduate degree in nursing, health care administration or management or Informatics.

•         Coursework in statistics

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

 

  • Valid Florida Nursing License

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

 

  • CPHQ

  • Six Sigma

  • CPPS, CHSP or other Patient Safety certification
