You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Ensures safe and highly reliable care is delivered in the Radiology Department by continuously assessing patient presentations and patient needs. 

  • Completes a pre-op check, if applicable, before beginning of each case for completed consent, lab work, history and physical, type of procedure accurately documented on consent,  verification of two identifiers (name and date of birth) and allergies of patient as shown within the Electronic Medical Record or patient chart.

  • Assists with positioning the patient for case with proper alignment and padding, maintain patient's privacy.  Ensures patient is clean, dry and warm before initiation of patient transfer or patient transport.

  • Monitor patients during sedation or local anesthesia according to policy. Ensure that documentation reflects all monitoring and interventions performed during sedation/anesthesia.  Recognizes potential emergency/life threatening situations and initiates appropriate action

  • Oversees medication and contrast administration processes to facilitate patient and associate safety. Interprets rhythm strips and applies appropriate interventions when necessary.

  • Operates physiologic monitoring computer competently as evidenced by complete documentation in procedure report.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and accurately operates radiologic monitoring and recording systems for radiology procedures.

  • Reviews and makes appropriate changes to schedule daily to determine requirements of nursing coverage so safe care can be facilitated.

  • When applicable and absolutely necessary, follows hospital policy and physician orders regarding use of restraints. Restraint usage to be utilized only when all other interventions failed.

  • Demonstrates competence and knowledge of aseptic techniques and radiological procedures to ensure a safe environment to minimize occurrence of hospital acquired infections.

  • Maintains aseptic technique by observation of case procedure and following of policies.  Inconsistencies reported to radiology director and reported in event reporting system after making effort/efforts to correct during procedure.

  • Demonstrates knowledge in the use of instruments and equipment necessary for a procedure.

  • Uses correct technique when doing preps.

  • Alert to the progression of case and maintains communication with the nursing units as necessary.

  • Demonstrates competent communication of pertinent patient information to ensure appropriate documentation and communication with staff and physicians.

  • Documents accurately on each case, completing the charting prior to starting another case.

  • Reports and documents all incidents within 24 hours in the event reporting system.

  • Communicates patient's condition to nursing unit upon their receiving the patient.

  • Ensures all patient hand-offs are thorough and concise to ensure patient and associate safety.

  • Communicates effectively and frequently with team members to share information and solve problems with positive results.

  • Utilizes chain of command when addressing concerns that require escalation.

  • Keeps records of charges by documenting supplies used on charge sheet, stamped with patient’s name and hospital number or by electronic means if appropriate.

  • Is proficient with clerical applications so to assist with patient processing and information retrieval

  • Assists Director of Radiology with staff scheduling and payroll.

  • Assists Director of Radiology in employee engagement through employee rounding and actively addressing concerns and complaints of staff. Acts as a resource for associates to assist with management of concerns and process improvement initiatives.

  • Assists Director of Radiology in interviewing new candidates, coordinating peer interviews, selection of agency contract staff, coaching, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations.

  • Contributes to the professional development of internal and external customers as well as self.

  • Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues and others. Acts as a mentor and resource for others within the department and facility as appropriate.

  • Facilitates positive orientation experiences for new employees by role modeling and the demonstration of our team-oriented focus.

  • Demonstrates proficiency while working effectively with an interdisciplinary team. Must be a self-starter and consistently demonstrate initiative when encountering obstacles.


What You Will Need:

  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing.

  • BSN required or obtained within 18 months of hire

  • Minimum 2 years IR nursing experience

    • Experience in unit area specialty in the past two years and one-year Management or Charge experience strongly preferred

  • Current RN license in the state of Texas or in a qualifying compact state.

  • BLS required

  • ACLS required

  • PALS required

  • CRN: Certified Radiology Nurse required

  • ARIN: Association for Radiological and Imaging Nursing strongly preferred

Job Summary:

The Radiology Nurse Manager practices as a professional nurse within the limits of the Texas Nurse Practice Act.  Under general supervision the Radiology Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care to age specific groups identified in the direct care responsibilities.  Utilize the nursing process in achieving the goals of the department.  Adhere to the Texas Health Huguley rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.  Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Assists in promoting an atmosphere where the imaging staff can openly discuss process improvements.   Support the organization’s mission and vision.
