You Will Be Responsible For:
- Provides scientific oversight over AdventHealth’s emerging Scientific and Protocol Review Committee (SPRC), designed to open impactful and high enrolling studies, facilitate efforts to drive enrollment, monitor progress of trials, and help evaluate sun-setting of trials that are well below enrollment goals.
- Drives formation and sustainability of structures and processes needed to carefully vet opportunities in the selection of clinical trial opportunities, assess feasibility tracked to biostatistics, evaluate publication/citation merit, and report on trial portfolio.
- Builds relationships with programs connected to oncology including: Translational Research Institute for Metabolics and Diabetes, the Center for Interventional Endoscopy, Digestive Surgical Institute, Global Robotics Institute, Institute for Surgical Advancement, and related departments and institutional partners in oncology and immunology.
- Develops precision medicine and molecular Tumor Board functions and help recruit a leader to manager this board.
- Provides phenotypic context for translational research (involving blood, tissue and pathology), developing collaborations connected to longitudinal care. Support efforts with cancer epidemiology, providing context for translational research, health analytics, personalization, value-based care, navigation, episodic and chronic analytics, electronic patient outcomes, and other emerging areas supporting oncology research.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
- Medical Doctorate (MD)
- OR Doctorate of Medicine and of Philosophy (MD/Ph.D.)
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience
- Minimum of seven (7) years of research experience
- Active Board Certification in Hematology and Oncology
- Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (Preferred)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding (Preferred)
- Industry/pharma investigator initiated funding (Preferred)
- Experience in leading a specialty research enterprise (Preferred)
Job Summary:
The Scientific Director is responsible for leading the research enterprise for the AdventHealth Cancer Institute (AHCI). Provides bi-directional leadership in science and translational research and develop cross-functional investigational research capabilities, leading to a higher prevalence and success rate for excellence in Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs). The Scientific Director will foster institutional awareness of IITs, identify programs and approaches to prepare more and better IITs, and enhance the success rate of winning IITs, across all sponsor types.
