You Will Be Responsible For:

•       The SANE is responsible the collection of forensic evidence from the adult patient arriving with stated sexual assault.  The SANE is responsible for collection of evidence according to the Texas Evidence Collection Protocol published by the Office of the Attorney General Sexual Assault Prevention and Crisis Services Division.

•       The SANE is responsible for compiling and maintaining accurate documentation on the Emergency Department record as well as any and all forensic examination forms provided in the examination kit.  The examination kit is provided by law enforcement. The SANE will assure that proper patient and family teaching & counseling is available on site at CTMC as well as proper referrals & follow-up instructions for proper and appropriate counseling.  The SANE is responsible for assuring proper law enforcement notification has taken place.

•       The SANE will administer physician ordered medication per protocol to the patient who has had potential exposure to sexually transmitted disease, as well as provide instruction for follow-up.

•       The SANE will notify the ER physician of patient change in status or need for further medical treatment or intervention beyond the SANE protocol.


Qualifications

What You Will Need:

•       Current license as an RN in the state of Texas.          

•       SANE training/Certification as provided by the Office of the Attorney General.

•       Current certificate in BLS.

•       ASN from an accredited school of nursing

•       Two years related experience and/or training. 


Job Summary:

To provide the sexual assault exam to the sexually assaulted patient in the Emergency Department regardless of the age, disability, economic status, gender, national origin, race, religion or health problems of the client served.
