The role you’ll contribute:

The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocol/guidelines; managing resources in a cost-effective manner; participating in performance improvement efforts; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.

  • Utilizes hospital policies and procedures to provide timely and appropriate nutrition intervention and therapy within the scope of practice defined by the hospital.

  • Develops a therapeutic plan of specialized nutrition support, including enteral and/or parenteral nutrition.

  • Provide recommendations for an individualized plan for nutrition intervention.

  • Collaborates with pharmacists for provision of parenteral nutrition care.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions.

  • Reassesses nutrition care process and implements changes as indicated.

  • Communicates with the medical team through interdisciplinary meetings, rounds and discharge planning meetings.

  • Assures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with the State practice act.

  • Documents in the patient’s legal medical record.

  • Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient’s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis plan, implementation, and progress toward goals.

  • Follows hospital policies for documentation.



  • Read, write, and speak English; handwriting must be legible.

  • Must be knowledgeable with the National Research Council’s Recommended Dietary Allowances.

  • Must be able to communicate patient nutrition needs to the physician, nursing staff, and other appropriate staff.

  • Ability to apply Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process.

  • Mathematical capabilities essential to job duties.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows to include Microsoft Office.

  • Must be able to use a telephone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer.

  • Inter-campus travel.


  • Proficiency in CBORD computerized foodservice program.

  • Bilingual.


  • Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).

  • Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area required.


  • One year of experience in acute care setting preferred.

  • Experience using Cerner electronic medical record.

  • Acute Care and Rehabilitation experience.

  • Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or nutrition related field.


  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

  • Florida Department of Health Dietitian/Nutritionist license.


  • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, Certified Diabetes Educator, Renal Certification, Certified Pediatric Specialist.
