The role you’ll contribute:

  • Facilitates all aspects of team readiness for surgical procedures including room set up, instrumentation, equipment and supplies. Collaborates with pre-op nurses and anesthesia team to ensure patient readiness.

  • Assists team with safe and appropriate operating room turnover times. Directs ancillary personnel participating in room turnover. Monitors first case start and turnover times to ensure goals are met.

  • Innovative in maintaining high standards and quality in the facilitation of cost savings and containment. Proactively works with staff on waste avoidance when opening for procedures. Manages and maintains all Doctor Preference Cards for the specialty to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Assesses capital purchase needs for the specialty and works with the leadership team to prioritize purchases. Communicates with physicians and surgery team members regarding product requests.

  • Monitors performance of the staff and reports findings to the nurse manager or takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate. Mentors and coaches employees on a continual basis in order to ensure competency in care delivery. Develops staff preceptors and mentors.

  • Acts as a liaison between departments regarding orders, instrumentation, scheduling and various surgical patient care issues.

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform in the role of surgical scrub by anticipating the needs of the surgeon and keeping the circulating nurse informed of any needs throughout a procedure. Ensures that all supplies, equipment, and medications are assembled prior to the procedure.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

The Surgical Technician Coordinator functions in the role of team facilitator and specialty coordinator to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of care to surgical patients. This position directs other health care team members in the unit environment and assists with training, orientation, and education of new personnel. The Coordinator participates in performance improvement activities and maintains knowledge of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and other regulatory standards. This position manages processing and oversight of all equipment, meeting with physicians to determine equipment needs and developing vendor relationships and is responsible for participating in cost-case analysis and supply savings initiatives. The Coordinator functions as a member of the surgical team, as a scrub person by providing care to surgical patients.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST)

  • Completion of a Surgical Tech Program

  • 2 years of experience as a Surgical Tech

  • BLS
