The role you’ll contribute:

The Referral Specialist, under the direction of the Referral Specialist Manager, is responsible for receiving and processing referral requests in a centralized call center environment. Processes medical record requests pertinent to the referrals as well as obtains authorizations as needed. Serves as a liaison between patients and medical office support staff in regards to referrals and appointment scheduling.

  • Assists patients in a prompt, courteous, and efficient manner.

  • Serves as liaison between the insurance company, the patient, and the physician office.

  • Directs patients to the appropriate specialists and vendors according to their insurance.

  • Takes accurate and legible messages, including time, date and other pertinent details.

  • Answers non-clinical questions for patients and routes all other calls as appropriate.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

Minimum qualifications :

  • General knowledge of medical terminology required.

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.

  • Strong PC skills and knowledge in MS Office

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Preferred qualifications:

  • General knowledge of how to navigate various web-based applications

  • Associate degree or higher

  • 1 year of experience in a call center environment

  • 1 year of experience in the medical field
