The role you’ll contribute: The Director of the Command Center is responsible for the ongoing improvement, implementation, evaluation and development of safe, effective and efficient patient access, placement and throughput across the Acute Care Services (ACS). The Director assures evaluation of outcomes to maintain a comprehensive view of system-wide operations and outcomes of all performance elements. The Director collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, medical staff and other stakeholders in relation to the management of patient throughput across ACS. The Director is responsible for the direct oversight of the FH Mission Control Command Center staff to ensure the patients are admitted or transferred between units or hospitals with efficiency and effectiveness while adhering to all policies and regulations. Provides accurate and timely planning, analysis and execution of approved projects. Manages and participates in end user needs assessment and analysis through effective use of computer systems to improve business processes. Manages real time data points and operational processes to assist in the design of an environment of high reliability and responsiveness creating an effective patient-center care and flow. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY :

· Coordinates the development of both short and long-range plans for operational improvements.

· Works closely with Executive Director to ensure FH Mission Control program is strategically aligned with the hospital’s mission, vision and goals and that the command center is contributing in a positive manner to the patient experience.

· Monitors IT systems to facilitate patient placement and movement throughout Acute Care Services.

· Oversees system-wide bed management for all patient admissions, discharges and transfer activity while monitoring capacity both currently and prospectively.

· Participates in internal and/or external training programs, staying current and compliant on application or technical skills applicable to assigned duties.

· Educates and mentors other leaders within the department.

· Thinks of the system as a whole when analyzing data and making decisions.

COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY :

· Ensures organizational knowledge of all regulatory and professional standards that effect the operations of their areas of responsibility.

· Adheres to applicable practice standards that relate to their area of specialty.

· Maintains and oversees processes to avoid EMTALA or Florida Access violations.

· Ensures continuity of patient care, practices, policies, equipment and monitoring across all campuses.

OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY :

· Understands health care economics, public policy, and finance as it pertains to the delivery of patient care.

· Proactively engages, in a professional and coaching manner, with employees to ensure productivity standards are met and understood.

· Responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels by monitoring worked hours, work load, overtime, and vacation schedules.

· Responsible for maintaining annual operating budget and takes appropriate action as necessary.

· Provides direct oversight to Command Center (cc#6791) operational budget.

STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY :

· Responsible for Command Center performance and strategic goals.

· Meets monthly with managers in the department to specifically review strategic initiatives the department has established.

· Meets with Strategic Business Unit leaders’ to provide inputs for improved patient flow.

· Plans, organizes and leads the department through application of critical thinking skills.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY :

· Follows up on 100% of complaints from hospital Leadership, patients, and/or patient’s families to continuously enhance departmental performance and patient experience.

· Ensures that practice changes, as a result of performance improvement activities, are implemented.

· Sets quality standards and initiatives for the department through collaboration with leadership and implementation of evidenced based practice where appropriate.

· Supports continual process improvement by sponsoring and/or participating in the activities.

· Regularly researches viability of new technology, programs, or processes for department(s).

COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY :

· Has established mechanism to build relationships and communications with community providers, referring facilities and business partners.

STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY :

· Attracts, develops and retains high-performing personnel. Recruits leaders with appropriate expertise to deliver on operational and strategic priorities and to ensure succession planning.

· Encourages and supports opportunities for staff development at all levels of the organization.

· Foster an open and professional communication environment.

· Investigates and responds to concerns of employees in a timely manner.

· Acts as a role model for professional behavior and professional appearance.

· Maintains the confidentiality of employees, patients, administration, and medical staff information with no infractions.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Understand our customers’ and employees’ needs and respond to them in a proactive, courteous, professional, and efficient manner

· Ability to lead performance improvement initiatives in their department

· Ability to think critically and utilize technology in relation to the operations of the department

· Broad clinical nursing knowledge

· Ability to develop and mentor others to their optimum levels of skill and professionalism

· Business and human resource skills as they relate to assigned areas of service

· Competency regarding communication and relationship building

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

· N/A

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)

· Five (5) years’ experience in nursing with three years’ experience in leadership roles in a comparable health care entity

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

· Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare or related degree

· Experience in the clinical setting related to area(s) of specialty

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

· Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
