Job Description:
Assists with terminal cleaning of the operating room, puts equipment, supplies, and instruments away as required, and assists in prepping the room for the next patient. Prepares and sterilizes supplies and equipment used in surgical procedures, reviews and replaces supplies in the surgical case following a procedure, and discards expired medications per protocol. Performs other duties as assigned. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures. Prepares solutions and medications, labels them properly, and reports amounts used for charting. Prepares back table and mayo stand, anticipating the needs of the surgeon using the surgeon’s preference card. Provides supplies or equipment upon request for the surgeon, nurses, and/or anesthesiologist. Holds retractors or instruments, sponges or suctions operative site, applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders, cuts suture material, connects drains to suction apparatus, and applies dressings to a wound. Assists with draping sterile field and covers operating and instrument tables. Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed, and as needed. Delivers surgical specimens/cultures from operative field to circulating nurse. Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures by checking package integrity, indicators, and opening procedures. Uses physician preference card to identify supplies and equipment needed for scheduled surgical or emergency procedures and updates preference cards with necessary changes.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Technical/Vocational School [Required]
Field of Study:
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program
Work Experience:
• 1+ experience in a surgical setting [Preferred]
• Experience in a specialty field [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:
• Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR
• Technician in Surgery – Certified (NTSC) [Required]
