Job Description:
- Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
- Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
- May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
- Performs microscopic evaluation and reporting of negative gynecological cytology preparations.
- Evaluates and formulates an opinion for the pathologist on abnormal gynecological thin layer, non-gynecological, and fine needle aspiration slide preparations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Technical skills related to processing, staining, and cover-slipping, including the handling and microscopic evaluation of gynecologic thin layer, irreplaceable fine needle aspirations, and fluid specimens
- Ability to assist Pathologist, Radiologist, or Endoscopist in the slide preparation and collection of samples for ancillary testing during fine needle aspirate procedures, and perform RAPID on-site evaluation of adequacy
- Knowledge of all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, rules, and guidelines such as State, and related agencies, as well as adherence to Corporate Compliance Plans
- Ability to read text and numbers, and effectively communicate verbally and in written form in English with patients, staff, and customers of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective, and professional manner
- Ability to comprehend, measure, reason, match, and problem solve
Education:
- Bachelor's [Required]
- Master's [Preferred]
Field of Study:
- Successful completion of a CAAHEP accredited cytology or cytotechnology program OR certified by a certification agency approved by HHS OR qualified and served as a cytotechnologist in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December, 28, 2024. Required
- Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on the specific unit or state in which this position is located. Please consult the relevant credential grid for detailed information regarding these requirements.
