Job Description Summary:

Annual Compensation $165,680

This role will be an integral part of the team that designs, implements and sustains a comprehensive Musculoskeletal & Joint Reconstructive program. They are also responsible for providing clinical and managerial health care leadership, problem solve, communication and strategically plan the development of Musculoskeletal Services. This role will use a collaborative multi-disciplinary approach to optimize the care of patients. This individual will participate as a key member and leader of the Orthopedic/Joint/Spine
Surgical team. They will work to optimize physician satisfaction and cost efficiency within the Service. For the elective inpatient orthopedic surgery patient, he/she will play an active role from the time of booking until discharge, assuming responsibility for ensuring delivery of comprehensive care, support
and education to patients and their families in preparation for and throughout their admission.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maximize the patient experience and increase physician satisfactions.
  • Minimize cancellations of scheduled cases. Maintain Hospital Active Status Credential.
  • Promote quality, patient safety, and cost-effective care.
  • Facilitate increased standardization of orthopedic services by reducing clinical variations.
  • Work to increase and develop outreach programs to grow market share.
  • Function as a liaison between medical staff and the facility leadership to communicate administrative concerns, decisions and planning.
  • Address concerns of medical staff in appropriate administrative and through administrative team.
  • Resolves issues promptly and completely.
  • Optimize the patient experience and physician productivity: On-going communication with Office/Hospital Personnel to ensure a seamless process for scheduling, complete pre-surgical testing,
  • availability of equipment and all patient-physician needs are addressed, participate in the
  • development and support of consistent pre-operative patient testing and education, face-to-face
  • meeting with patients at pre-surgical testing, be available at day of admission to address any last minute concerns and questions to minimize unnecessary patient anxiety, serve as liaison to and assist in problem solving for each physician/surgical care coordinator to facilitate and maintain good
  • working relationships, learn, understand and help address each individual doctor's pre-operative instrument and supply needs and post-operative case management protocols, and coordinate with the Hospital Informatics Officer and IT staff to help promote efficient orthopedic documentation.
  • Post-operative Phase for Elective & Emergent Patients: Performs administrative rounds on all orthopedic patients throughout their hospital stay and, as requested and per availability, assist
  • attending PA/MDs from all orthopedic groups in A.M. clinical rounds, and work with the care management team to correct issues a patient may have as they arise to optimize patient satisfaction and outcome.
  • Orthopedic Services Efficiency: Streamline the flow of orthopedic patient care from the time of an orthopedic surgery booking until discharge (both ambulatory and inpatient), engage and work with the key clinical/management stakeholders on an on-going basis to identify and help remove clinical and operational barriers impacting the efficient flow and/or quality of care for orthopedic patients,
  • partner with the Senior Operational executives and managers to create budget plans with a goal of cost containment and drive utilization management and support integration of initiatives across the continuum of care.
  • Orthopedic Services Quality: Attends meetings as defined by CMO, Assist in the education and integration of medical management and surgical team, and Orthopedic Services Quality oversight.
  • Musculoskeletal & Joint Reconstructive Services Program Development: Work with the key clinical/management stakeholders to develop and implement an interdisciplinary continuum of care
  • model to manage, grow, and sustain services dedicated to elective orthopedic surgery, and participate in strategic planning for the service.
  • Musculoskeletal & Joint Reconstructive Services Program & Business Development: Serve as
  • Avista's Total Joint and Spine Center Liaison for communities and businesses residing in the Avista
  • PSA/SSA, work with the hospital, Orthopedic Practices and Physician Community to orchestrate
  • educational and outreach programs to promote the Hospital-Physician orthopedic capabilities and
  • available services, work with the hospital and orthopedic practices to orchestrate programs to build and grow a referring physician network for new business development, identify new technologies and
  • treatment modalities and implement within strategic plan, and participate in professional organizations, local committees and CME events in order to stay abreast of change and opportunities in the medical industry.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Three years of practice as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant; previous administrative experience preferred.
  • Strong previous performance of providing quality and efficiency in patient care and operations.
  • Experience with leading and redirect talent as needed.
  • Strong ability to lead in a changing environment.
  • 100% Hospital Based

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Master preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  • PA-C by NPCCA required.
  • Current mid-level provider license by the state of Colorado
  • BLS required.
