Job Description:
Observes and documents patient’s cardiac rhythm every shift, during arrhythmias, and for new patients on telemetry. Recognizes and immediately notifies RN of life-threatening arrhythmias. Responds promptly to all monitor alarms according to department/hospital policy. Documents all communication with caregivers and rhythm strips according to hospital policy. Maintains patient EKG records in an organized manner and files EKG reports onto charts as needed. Documents reasons for temporary or permanent removal from telemetry and if/when monitoring resumes. Ensures central monitor is never left unattended and all patients on telemetry are connected with alarms appropriately set. Maintains inventory and replacement of telemetry supplies, ensuring all transmitter inventory is accounted for each shift. Cleans transmitters after each patient use and helps maintain equipment in good working order, notifying biomed of any malfunctions. Uses standards of care, hospital policies/procedures, and regulatory guidelines to guide work, demonstrating ethical, legal, and professional behavior. Communicates clearly and courteously with patients, families, visitors, coworkers, physicians, and other departments. Assists with quality improvement, safety, and regulatory functions, participates in process changes to improve practice, and trains other Telemetry Techs, students, and hospital personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
