Facility Engineering Technician

As an Engineering Technician, you will help maintain the systems, equipment, and environments that support exceptional care for patients, families, and team members.

Schedule/Shift: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday

Hours: 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
What You’ll Do
As a Facility Engineering Technician, you will provide maintenance support throughout AdventHealth Ottawa across plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and facility improvement functions. Including-
-
Replace and repair typical patient room equipment, including light bulbs, televisions, thermostats, telephones, curtain tracks, doors, door closers, corner guards, wall base, floor coverings, and ceiling tiles.

Unplug drains and repair faucets and flush valves.
-
Respond to electrical, HVAC, and plumbing failures.

Repair medical gas outlets, carts, IV stands, and appliances used by patients.

Assist with signage installation and the installation of other wall-hung items.
-
Route work orders to the appropriate craft or shop for follow-up and completion.
-
Check the DIN book at each nurse’s station, make necessary repairs, or report concerns to Facilities Management.
-
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings to complete assigned work.
-
Perform repairs and preventive maintenance as directed while consistently meeting preventive maintenance schedules.
-
Maintain current and accurate work order documentation within 24 hours of completing work.

Maintain working knowledge of main panels and shutoffs for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Monitor building conditions and communicate maintenance needs to Facilities Management.

Ensure quality workmanship while maintaining no more than two callbacks on the same job per month.

Communicate work progress with the manager and team.
-
Assist in maintaining the team work schedule and cover shifts or specific assignments as required by medical center needs.

Maintain all safety standards and comply with applicable healthcare, federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

Participate in Quality Improvement activities.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Facility Engineers have knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
-
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
-
Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain facility equipment and systems.
-
Ability to prioritize work orders and respond to changing medical center needs.
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Facilities Management and other departments.
-
Commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and high-quality workmanship.
Qualifications
Education
-
High school diploma or equivalent graduation required, or five or more years of relevant experience.
Work Experience
-
General maintenance experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
-
Valid driver’s license required.
