Job Description:

$3,000 Relocation Assistance available to eligible candidates (see terms below) and position starts at a minimum hourly rate of $26.00 per hour

Terms: 12-month Full-time Employment Contract Required for Relocation 

Relocation Eligibility:

  • Must live 50 miles outside of campus address

  • Rehires that are less than 12 months from separation date are not eligible

Schedule: Full Time

Shift: Days, 12:00pm-10:30pm, days scheduled may vary depending on unit requirements

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports education and skills of the interdisciplinary team to advocate for and enhance atraumatic care and comfort techniques throughout the facility.

  • Provides training and supervision for volunteers and maintain positive working relationships with them.

  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and interventions.

  • Maintains an organized and clean work environment, including playroom, workspace, and storage areas.

  • Provides developmentally appropriate education for patients and their families related to medical procedures, diagnoses, pain management, grief, and bereavement.

  • Uses play as a primary resource with patients and siblings to enhance coping, promote mastery and control, and encourage socialization.

  • Assesses developmental levels, coping skills, and diversional needs of patients and siblings while establishing therapeutic relationships.

  • Utilizes stress reduction techniques and offers emotional support to assist with patient and family coping and minimize stress related to their healthcare experience.

  • Assists with coordination, involvement, and support for hospital-related community and special events.

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Child Life peers and members of the healthcare team while supporting departmental changes due to performance initiatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Entry-level professional competency in child life related skills [Required]

  • Ability to learn and advance clinical skills [Required]

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change [Required]

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities [Required]

  • Ability to communicate with others in a clear and professional manner on the phone, in person, and in writing [Required]

Education:

  • Bachelor's [Required]

  • Master's [Preferred]

Field of Study:

  • in Child Life, Education, Recreation Therapy, Child Development, Psychology or related field

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Child Life Specialist Certification (CCLS) Certification is Required within one year of Start date.

  • Successful completion of 600-hour child life internship prior to first day of employment.
