Registered Dietitian

Job Summary

Make an impact through nutrition! As a Registered Dietitian I, you’ll have the opportunity to help patients feel their best by creating personalized nutrition plans that support their health, recovery, and overall well-being.

The Registered Dietitian I provides nutrition counseling, education, and individualized recommendations while helping patients understand how nutrition can support their health goals. You’ll work closely with patients throughout their care journey, adjusting nutrition plans as their needs change.

You won’t do it alone! As a Registered Dietitian I, you’ll collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals as part of a supportive team focused on providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments through medical record review, patient interviews, nutrition-focused physical examinations, anthropometric measurements, and evaluation of clinical data.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and document individualized nutrition care plans using evidence-based practice standards and the Nutrition Care Process.
  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), nutrition education, counseling, and referrals to support patient health goals.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify nutrition interventions as appropriate.
  • Document nutrition assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and monitoring activities within the electronic health record.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with healthcare teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Assist with discharge planning and transitions of care related to nutrition needs.
  • Serve as a nutrition resource for patients, families, clinical staff, and foodservice personnel.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement activities, research projects, and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Assist in the orientation, training, and supervision of dietetic interns, registration-eligible dietitians, dietetic technicians, and new team members.
  • Develop and maintain patient education materials and clinical resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, or a related field.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy and evidence-based nutrition practices.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical nutrition experience in an acute care, outpatient, or healthcare setting.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Additional specialty certifications related to nutrition practice.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend conversational English, with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy [Required]
  • General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, e-mail, and spreadsheet software [Required]
  • Ability to search the web for nutrition research or practice updates and apply knowledge to updating reference materials, preparing for presentations, education, etc., with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]
  • Ability to serve as a nutrition expert and resource to staff on units, with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]

  • Ability to attend interdisciplinary meetings and rounds on assigned units as scheduled, with or without reasonable accommodation, unless a valid excuse is demonstrated [Required]
  • Ability to assist in regulatory survey preparation when applicable, with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]
  • Ability to review and/or update department resource/reference materials when applicable or required, with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]
  • When confronted with barriers to meeting patient care standards, ability to improve processes by planning and implementing action steps [Required]
  • Ability to identify specific patient or staff needs, initiate and develop educational or clinical materials, and evaluate outcomes [Required]
  • Ability to ensure that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with established standards [Required]
  • Skill and knowledge in working with an electronic health record system [Required]
  • Ability to analyze and interpret reliable assessment data to identify an actual occurrence, risk of, or potential for developing a nutrition problem [Required]
  • Ability to include Nutrition Diagnoses/Problems on the patient care plan and update them as more data becomes available, or sign off as applicable [Required]
  • Ability to provide appropriate intervention in accordance with the identified patient’s goals [Required]
  • Ability to identify and follow through with potential complex discharge planning needs and intervene early to promote timely attainment of goals [Required]
  • Ability to adhere to reassessment timeframes per standards [Required]
  • Ability to reassess and update the nutrition care process and implement changes as indicated [Required]
  • Ability to comply with National Patient Safety Goals regarding abbreviation usage and patient identification [Required]
  • Ability to perform assessments, interventions, and procedures utilizing equipment appropriate for the applicable age group, with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and support personnel [Required]
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision [Required]
  • Ability to keep accurate and complete records, with or without reasonable accommodation [Required]
  • Initiative to keep abreast of new information, products, and developments in the field of Dietetics [Required]
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations as related to Dietetics practice [Required]
  • Proficiency in the Nutrition Care Process of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics [Required]
  • Proficiency in identifying and using comparative standards to estimate energy, fat, protein, carbohydrate, fiber, fluid, vitamin, and mineral needs, as well as recommended body weight, BMI, and desired growth patterns [Required]
  • Ability to be flexible and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary [Required]
