For Jackson Friesth, Pharmacy Director at AdventHealth Avista, the path into health care began with curiosity and grew into a calling rooted in compassion, science, and service.
During his undergraduate studies, Jackson was drawn to courses in clinical nutrition and physiology. He became fascinated by how vitamins, nutrients, and medications interact within the body, and how even small adjustments can make a meaningful impact on health.
“That curiosity naturally grew into a desire to work in health care,” he shares. “Pharmacy felt like the perfect fit. It allows me to apply that scientific foundation in a practical, patient-centered way every day.”
A career built on individualized care
What Jackson enjoys most about pharmacy is the ability to individualize care. No two patients are the same, and pharmacy offers constant opportunities to problem-solve, collaborate, and personalize treatment.
After nine years at AdventHealth Avista, his passion continues to be fueled by growth and impact.
“I’m fortunate to work in a setting that encourages learning, leadership development, and collaboration,” he says. “Knowing our work directly affects the lives of our neighbors keeps me motivated every day.”
Caring for a community and each other
For Jackson, serving patients and families at Avista means caring for people as individuals, not diagnoses.
“As a small community hospital, we have the privilege of building trust and forming real connections,” he explains. “It’s about showing up with expertise, empathy, and respect – especially during some of the most vulnerable moments in a person’s life.”

“Running is a cornerstone of my life,” he shares. “Physically, it keeps me strong. Mentally, it helps me process stress and stay grounded. Spiritually, it reminds me of discipline, gratitude, and perseverance.”
Whether training for elite events or running alongside his wife and friends, the lessons he’s learned carry into his leadership.
“Progress doesn’t happen overnight,” he reflects. “It’s built through small, intentional efforts and learning from setbacks. That mindset translates directly into leadership – showing up consistently, trusting the process, and keeping long-term goals in focus.”
An invitation to feel whole
For team members searching for balance, Jackson offers simple advice.
“Start small and stay curious,” he says. “You don’t need to be great at something for it to be meaningful. Pay attention to what energizes you.”
