Job Description:

AHMG Genomics and Personalized Health at Orlando

601 E. Rollins St., Suite 125, Orlando, FL 32804

Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm

  • Promotes, advocates, and collaborates to protect the health, safety, and rights of each patient. Identifies resources, provides information, and supports patients and families regarding the impact of genetic diagnosis.
  • Communicates patient information to medical providers.
  • Obtains appropriate informed consent for gene testing.
  • Provides counseling in-person, by telephone, and/or telehealth based on patient and facility needs.
  • Counsels patients regarding risks, need for gene testing, and treatment options. Performs patient risk assessments in an accurate, compassionate, and informative manner.
  • Develops and conducts educational sessions and in-services for professional staff, including physicians and the general public.
  • Documents all patient care activities, including assessments/evaluations, recommendations, and patient response per standards of practice and regulatory/third-party payer requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively in a supportive manner to patients, family, staff, and physicians in a timely manner. [Required]• Ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others. [Required]• Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities, and carry out established plans. [Required]• Flexibility in prioritization; critical thinking/problem-solving skills. [Required]• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a group setting. [Required]• Computer skills such as Microsoft Work, Access, Excel, and Outlook. [Required]• Knowledge of navigating in an Electronic Medical Record (Athena, Cerner, Epic). [Preferred]• Knowledge of genetic counseling information and assessing the need to provide education. [Required]• Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal laws, regulations, and standards that may impact the delivery of services. [Required]• Leadership and facilitation skills; ability to interact appropriately with managers/departments to facilitate process development and quality improvement. [Required]• Strong organizational, communication, and customer-relations skills; ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. [Required]• Skilled in providing age-appropriate cancer genetic counseling and education. [Required]• Skilled and comfortable in discussing outcomes of genetic testing. [Required]• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. [Preferred]• Program development skills. [Preferred]

Education:
• Doctorate [Preferred]• Master’s [Required]

Field of Study:
• in Genetic Counseling from an ABGC or ABMG accredited master’s program
• from a medical genetics training program accredited by ABGC or ABMG

Work Experience:
• 1+ prior experience as a genetic counselor [Preferred]• Experience in developing a genetic counseling program [Preferred]
