Job Description:

  • Manages ECMO circuits and equipment during patient care, including circuit interventions and change-outs.
  • Observes, monitors, assesses, and reports patient status and response to ECMO therapy.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care for ECMO patients.
  • Participates in building and priming disposable ECMO circuits and other related equipment.
  • Leads ECMO patient transport, both within and between hospitals.

[Required]• Adept at initiating and administering complex therapeutic interventions. [Required]• Maintains effective time-management skills within a high-stress environment. [Required]• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to tailor messages to various audiences and populations. [Required]• Ability to maintain accountability and commitment to quality and safety. [Required]• Ability to maintain relationships with patients, families, and other members of the multidisciplinary hospital team. [Required]• Computer skills and ability to work effectively within electronic medical records (EMRs) [Required]• Ability to work independently while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. [Required]• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Platform; particularly Outlook and Word. [Required]• Ability to ensure security and confidentiality of patient health information (PHI). [Required]• Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals, bylaws, regulations, and instructions. [Required]• Ability to make decisions ethically and be a patient advocate. [Required]• Knowledge and ability to intervene safely with an ECMO Circuit and ensure ECMO therapy continues. [Required]• Knowledge and ability to build, prime, and initiate an ECMO circuit utilizing various disposable equipment and cannulas. [Required]

Education:
• Associate's [Required]

Field of Study:
• in Nursing or Respiratory Therapy

Work Experience:
• 1+ year of critical care or palliative care experience for patients with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses [Preferred]• 2+ experience as a registered nurse, registered respiratory therapist and at least one year as an ecmo specialist in an acute-care setting within the last five years. [Required]• Attended and passed a qualified ECMO Specialist course. [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:
• Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) [Required]• Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
