Job Description:

• Demonstrate caring behaviors, respect, equity, inclusiveness, and empathy while implementing nursing professional development initiatives.

• Promote opportunities for collaboration and partnership across education and clinical practice settings.

• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders to advance professional development.

• Serve as a resource for clinical inquiry, guiding the identification of potential projects and providing subject matter expertise.

• Champion a spirit of inquiry by supporting research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives using preferred methodologies (e.g., PDSA).

• Drive collaborative problem-solving and support the implementation of meaningful change.

• Foster a supportive environment for nursing research, scientific inquiry, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.

• Disseminate evidence-based findings through education programs, courses, and other developmental activities.

• Model professional standards to inspire alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

• Competency Management: Advance competency management through innovative, evidence-based programs that promote clinical excellence and growth.

• Education Continuing Nursing Education: Develop and evaluate educational initiatives that address learning needs and close practice gaps. Programs are designed to augment the knowledge, skills and attitudes of assigned staff including continuing education, in-service education, continued competence training, or new information based on unit/department needs, organization initiatives/goals and policy revisions. Develops, incorporates, and implements evidence-based plans in collaboration with content experts, representatives of target audiences, and other stakeholders to support interprofessional/team coordination of care across the continuum. Assists with students and practicing nurses to identify their learning needs, strengths, and opportunities and develops learning activities to grow skill sets based on learning needs. Evaluates the effectiveness of educational activities.

• Preceptor Role Development: Assists others in their professional role development, practice role transitions, and succession planning. Supports the preceptor program and provides support at the unit level to the preceptor. Promotes certification and advanced formal education

• Collaborative Partnership:  Promotes a supportive environment for students by collaborating with academic partners for student placement and a positive student experience. Implements the nursing professional development (NPD) initiatives demonstrating caring behaviors, respect, equity, inclusiveness and empathy in actions and interactions with others. Identifies opportunities for collaboration/partnership related to education and clinical practice. Effectively communicates and collaborates with relevant stakeholders related to professional development activities

• Research/Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)/Quality Improvement (QI):  Serves as a resource for clinical inquiry process, including identification of potential projects, and/or subject matter expertise. Demonstrates a “spirit of inquiry” to support professional curiosity including research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives using the organization’s preferred structure, i.e. PDSA (plan, do, study, act). Works with others to identify problems and solutions and collaboratively create and assists in the implementation of the changes planned. Creates a supportive environment for nursing research, scientific inquiry, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice. Disseminates evidence-based practice findings through educational programs, courses, and other activities.

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale

Must possess a master's degree and 3 or more years of NICU experience in level 3 NICU. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Effective professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills. [Required]

• Knowledge of the American Nurses Association (ANA)/Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) scope and standards for Nursing Professional Development. [Required]

• Working knowledge of word processing, data management, email, and presentation applications. [Preferred]

• Self-directed, creative, and demonstrates initiative to support the seven roles of the NPD practitioner: learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for the NPD specialty, and partner for practice transitions. [Preferred]

• Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, OSHA) for professional specialty served. [Preferred]
